fotoism Posted December 11, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted December 11, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I noticed when I use the SF-58 on the M8 in TTL mode I always get underexposed files (DNG). The curves in the histogram are all on the left half, maybe a bit over to the right side of the center line, but not evenly distributed. Â This happens in many different situations where both light and dark subjects are present. I even shot at a blank wall (to ensure even lighting) hoping nothing was there to fool the camera or the flash. Â I tried setting shutter speed to A or 1/250, ISO to AUTO or 160 (or anything else), and changing aperture to above or below what's shown on the SF-58 screen, but none of these made any difference. Still underexposed. Â When the files are opened in Capture One the histograms remain the same ( all to the left half) and I had to adjust white point every time. Â The only way to get good exposure is to set the SF-58 to EV=+1. Â Does this sound normal? What is your experience?

fotoism Posted December 11, 2014 Author Share #2 Â Posted December 11, 2014 No one using SF-58 in TTL mode? With M8, M9, MM, M240?
CaptZoom Posted December 11, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted December 11, 2014 Have noticed the Leica flash on the M9, so no TTL for me; it sounds like you've found the solution. The M9's metering is biased towards protecting highlights (at least in my experience); I'm guessing that's why you're getting under exposure in auto mode. I'm sure the more experienced will soon chime in with s better explanation.
