B) Buy the M9-P as it's such a rare opportunity to find a "new" one, and sell my M9 when it returns.

I don't know what my M9 will be worth when I sell it, and therefore how much extra I would be investing in the M9-P so option B is a risk to my wallet.

I'm not sure if the question is how much your M9 will be worth when you sell it. The real question is, will you be able to sell your M9 at all?

Looking on ebay there are a lot of M9 for sale and only two have bids. There are 30 MM for sale and none have bids. Right now, I think you are stuck with the M9. I would just enjoy it when it comes back.

Sending it in to Leica every so often when you need a refresh of the sensor seems the fate of this camera. That should get you several more years. Eventually, it will pass away and then, move on to what ever is out there in a few years.

If, you need a second M now, it would logically be the M240.

Well, while that seems like a fair appraisal of M9 sales on eBay, the MM is a different story. Sure, there have been quite a few for sale recently, many with no bids, BUT the MM prices are very high, a few near $7K and most others well over that. For example, there are currently 18 for sale in eBay North America, with an average starting bid of well over $7K. The MMs that sell for less on eBay are often not as advertised (as I well learned a few weeks back) or pretty well used.

You are correct. When I advanced searched for "Monochrom sold" I see 5 that have been sold from November 1. Still, there are about 20 listed and not much action in December (one sale). It certainly is not a sellers market.

C) another option my tired head hasn't thought of yet? ... .

Buy the M9P and keep both. Backup and it sure is nice to have two cameras that are exactly the same with different lenses on each. Say... M9P with a 21 and M9 with a 35, or M9P with a 28 and M9 with a 50, or ...

I just bought a second barely used m9p. I just dont need a new version with bells n whistles. This way i have insurance if leica ever stops replacing ccd's. No better image quality unless you prefer shooting in the dark and producing a plastic image.
