innerimager Posted May 10, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted May 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll be arriving Tuesday 5-15 and staying till Sunday (at the Pulitzer). Anyone in town want to get together for some shooting and....well I wouldn't know, I'm from NY. I think my wife can spare me for awhile. Also, what type of wall socket is used there, did the correct adapter for it come with the ones included in the M8 box, and if so, which one do I pack? thanks, .....Peter

peterv Posted May 10, 2007 Share #4  Posted May 10, 2007 You and your wife will enjoy Amsterdam, I'm sure.  Don't forget this important exhibition:  Home - World Press Photo  It's right in the centre, not far from your hotel, in the Oude Kerk, Amsterdam.  Maybe if we can find a moment to spare, we can arrange that we visit this exhibition together, and have a cup of coffee afterwards.  Are you bringing both the M8 and the M7?  Peter

jaapv Posted May 10, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted May 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) And one place you must not miss is the Puccini chocolate shop in the Staalstraat near the fleamarket and Stopera (across the bridge) The best chocolate in Europe and in their little coffee parlor excellent coffee, calorie-heavy cakes and great other snacks and food. Their pralines have been known to provoke acute chocolate addiction.

Jaap is a dentist and he's trying to make a few extra Euro's 'helping out' ignorant tourists with toothache...  Seriously, Jaap is right, if you're into chocolate, go there!  And don't forget Holtkamp at the Vijzelgracht for the best pastry...  Peter

stunsworth Posted May 12, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted May 12, 2007 Peter, as you may have realised Amsterdam is a compact city so you can get to most places easily on foot. One of the pleasures of visiting is just to wander around. Â As far as I know the Rijks Museum is still closed, but they have a sort of 'creme de la creme' mini-collection in a building round the back. Expect queues at the Van Gogh museum. Â Oh, and if you do go into the red-light area don't be tempted to try and shoot any of the ladies sat in the windows.
jaapv Posted May 12, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted May 12, 2007 Foto Nivo Schweitzer on the Haarlemmerdijk 114 , a nice area for tourists as well,is a very nice shop, pro level. Be very careful with the 2nd hand shop on the Nieuwendijk. There are trams running everywhere. If you want to explore outside the centre, which can be very nice, walking is not an option. Taxis are expensive.

peterv Posted May 12, 2007 Share #16  Posted May 12, 2007 Again, Jaap is right.  We do most of our shopping in the Haarlemmerstraat and Haarlemmerdijk. A lot of nice little shops.  Nivo-Schweitzer is my Leica dealer. A very nice family owned camera shop.  http://www.fotonivo.nl/nivoframe.html  Don't know if the sell XP2 though.  Peter
