LUF Admin Posted May 10, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Leica Forum members, Change is the only thing that stays... The Leica Forum moved about a year ago to an own domain, now we take the next step in order to show our independence from Leica Camera AG, Solms. This doesn't change the fact, that we'll work directly together with Leica Camera AG. We have many personal contacts to Leica employees and we will stay close to the company. To make a long story short: The Leica Forum moves to a new web address. As of the end of this week the new URL is: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum For legal reasons the domain name has to show that the Leica Forum is not a website provided by Leica Camera but a free website. As the brand "Leica" is used by Leica Microsystems and Leica Geosystems too the domain may not contain "Leica" as word. For some months all visitors of the old domain will be seemlessly forwarded to the new forum, so the traffic will stay and no one will have problems to find us in the web. We'll use this opportunity too to upgrade the forum software and to move to a faster web server. What changes take place for forum members? Tomorrow the forum will be closed for some hours or will grant read access only. During this time we'll move all data, update and test the new software. When this is done, we'll open the new forum and activate the redirection from the old forum. This time username and password will stay the same, you'll only have to change your bookmarks. I'm looking forward to continue the Leica Forum success story together with all of you! Best regards from Bonn, Germany Andreas Juergensen

demadit Posted May 10, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 10, 2007 Dear Forum members, Leica Camera wishes the forum all the best under the new URL. The independence that the forum now acquires will allow you to implement the changes you require more rapidly and I am sure that you will have plenty of good ideas of things to do in the near future. Over the last year, this forum established itself as one of the most important one for the Leica community world wide. It proved very helpful for us to get an impression for the market and also communicate directly with our customers. We want to further develop this good working relationship. In other words, you will be independent enough to get the desired changes done quickly and close enough to us to get first hand information. Long live http://www.l-camera-forum.com ! arthury Posted May 10, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 10, 2007 No So, just curious, ... who is funding it, besides the ads on the site?
LUF Admin Posted May 10, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted May 10, 2007 So, just curious, ... who is funding it, besides the ads on the site? It's exact these ads. And the share we get from Amazon, B+H or Adorama for sales triggered by ads in the forum. And lot of work for free by the moderators and me. Enjoy the forum! samwells Posted May 10, 2007 Share #7 Posted May 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Better do all our Amazon shopping via the forum link, then :-) Do you still get a share even if I buy, say, an unrelated item like a computer hard drive from Amazon, as long as I go via the forum link? xrogers Posted May 10, 2007 Share #10 Posted May 10, 2007 I hope the move is a good one. So, does this mean we can have a "for sale" forum now? Thanks, --clyde
stunsworth Posted May 10, 2007 Share #11 Posted May 10, 2007 Clyde, Leica insisted that there wasn't one, so I'd like to think the answer to your question is yes.

sdai Posted May 10, 2007 Share #14 Posted May 10, 2007 How about enabling the "user reputation" feature inside the vBulletin software for the Buy and Sell board? A feedback system with the capability to track a user's transaction history will greatly benefit a healthy market place.
LUF Admin Posted May 10, 2007 Author Share #15 Posted May 10, 2007 How about enabling the "user reputation" feature inside the vBulletin software for the Buy and Sell board? A feedback system with the capability to track a user's transaction history will greatly benefit a healthy market place. User reputation is a difficult thing - I think about it when implementing this highly theoritical option of a "Buy and Sell board" Andreas
squanmis Posted May 11, 2007 Share #16 Posted May 11, 2007 I'm having trouble bookmarking the new URL. The screen comes up asking for my user name and then my password. It won't let me log on or bookmark. I've been a member since 2005. This problem occurred with the last change. Please help. John
