Having both 35mm and 50mm?

Like most everyone, I too have tussled with this question.

My outcome is a 28/50/90 for 'travel', I can make do without the 90 in a pinch.

The 28 can be slower, since it tends to be a landscape lens, whether countryside or urban settings, I love this field of view very much. I have a Summicron, lucky me :D

I don't care for the inside of churches etc enough to want wider or faster, I buy a postcard if I really want the Sistine Chapel on my wall.

The 50 is a short telephoto almost, details in a scene whether people or place or what have you may. A Summilux is a treat here.

The 35 I use primarily for the purpose of indoor gatherings of people. It has to be a Summilux for this purpose. I use it when I'm enjoying an event or place in the company of friends or family and want to capture the scene from within our group if you will.

It took me a few tries to find that combination that works for me. I tend to take either 28/50 or 35 at one time, based on primary expected use, and compromise for other purposes.

Good luck, interesting to read others views on the subject. It's a win win dilemma is think.

15mm 28mm and 50mm is my preferred combination for travel.

15mm for architecture/landscape, it might be an odd choice but I love the perspective. It exaggerates geometry and is the best option for architecture unless you're willing to bring around a big Canon tilt shift.

28mm for general purpose and street and 50mm for people!

Well I found a good clean M6TTL and a 35mm lux asph, should be up and running by mid week. Hope I don't take too much of a beating on selling my 50 Lux Asph ( listed here, RFF ). I replaced it with the 50 planar which I love.

Nice combination of lenses.  My most used lens is a 35 Summicron ASPH but recently I added a C-Biogon 35 2.8 as a daily user for my M2 and have been tossing about adding a 50 Planar or a 50 Sonnar to go with it.  The Planar seems to be leading at the moment but things can always change.

Thank you for all the help. I just bought a 35mm Summicron ASPH from Leica Manila. I'm going to Europe next week with the 21 Color Skopar, 35mm Summicron ASPH, 50mm Summicron. I hope my combination works :)

Again, thank you for all the advice and comment. Very Much appreciated.

I have all three lenses and you won't be disappointed with the combination.  Easy enough to carry all three around and I doubt if you will be disappointed with the choice.  Let us know which lens you end up using the most.

Good luck with your trip!  Those three lenses are excellent, and they are a good combination, too.  21, 35 and 50 is my travel kit, although I sacrifice lightness for speed by using the Zeiss 21/2.8 instead of the CV 21/4P.

I do hope you are taking a secondary/backup camera that can fit in your pocket.  It is often useful to have such a camera on hand for when a rangefinder is a little cumbersome or showy.
