bernie.lcf Posted May 1, 2015 Share #61 Posted May 1, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's Olympus VF-2 and Leica EVF-2. They look and work the same, but I could swear that the Leica's color has a different default color setting. Anyway, Olympus has stopped selling the VF-2 because they are meanwhile on VF-4. It's getting a little hard buying the VF-2 from a dealer and the prices are sometimes north of 220,- Since the Leica viewfinder can be bought south of 300,- in mint condition, I got an Leica. Douglasco Posted May 1, 2015 Share #62 Posted May 1, 2015 If anyone wants an VF2 MPB Photographic have just put one up for sale on their website for £62.00 it is in E++ condition
rjans Posted May 3, 2015 Share #63 Posted May 3, 2015 Do I understand correctly that the EVF 2 is no longer being offered along with the X Vario? I bought an X Vario and in addition the OLYMPUS EVF2 (apparently the same as LEICA EVF2 apart from the brandname). To me, the viewer is an absolute must. The Olympus EVF2 works perfectly. I am happy with it. Last week I received a mail from a well known German Leica dealer and just checked their website: a brand new X Vario + the EVF 2 for 2200 €. There are also other combination deals available. So I presume the Leica version of the viewfinder is still available. I have the Olympus version. bernie.lcf Posted May 3, 2015 Share #64 Posted May 3, 2015 Yes, the Leica version is still around and will be for another couple of years, based on past experience. As I said, the Olympus is off the shelf as they are meanwhile on VF-3 (cheaper, lower resolution) and VF-4 (more expensive, higher resolution). Neither is compatible with any of the Leicas and both require firmware upgrades on the various Olympus cameras. Furthermore, the VF-4 will only show a low res picture on older Olympus - it is therefore safe to assume that there is more involved than just firmware (probably faster CPU etc. ). Olympus has also stopped using the accessory port (that's the hole underneath the flash shoe) in their latest camera, the OM-D E-M5 Mark II. The accessory port was used by Olympus for other accessory as well (macro light, microphone), not just the viewfinder.
rjans Posted June 3, 2015 Share #65 Posted June 3, 2015 To come back to the original question in this thread, I just got a mail from a well known UK dealer. £ 1299 for a brand new X Vario. Reminds me of the situation with the Digilux 3 several years ago. Best

Reminds me of the situation with the Digilux 3 several years ago. Best that'll be ffordes, but the others should have deals as well since Leica announced a summer special on the X-Vario in the UK, but the dealers for some reason have been reluctant to reveal anything, except ffordes
theoldman Posted June 10, 2015 Share #67 Posted June 10, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is interesting that in recent times the prices of used XV's have declined significantly. I have been unable to sell my immaculate, barely used, XV for as little as £950; or £1100 with the Leica VF2, which I thought might be reasonable. I may as well leave it on the shelf and just look at it occasionally.
wda Posted June 10, 2015 Share #68 Posted June 10, 2015 That is very frustrating because it is an excellent camera and even more of a bargain at current prices. Why are you selling yours 'theoldman'?

I have been unable to sell my immaculate, barely used, XV for as little as £950; or £1100 with the Leica VF2, which I thought might be reasonable. sorry to hear, but keep in mind that Leica has been discounting the X Vario quite heavily. Also, the dealers are selling mint condition X Vario for EUR 1400 with warranty - that's less than UKP 1100,-
theoldman Posted June 10, 2015 Share #70 Posted June 10, 2015 That is very frustrating because it is an excellent camera and even more of a bargain at current prices. Why are you selling yours 'theoldman'? I simply have too many cameras. I love the simplicity of the X Vario; it's a superb walkaround camera, but there are only so many I can carry at once. Douglasco Posted June 11, 2015 Share #71 Posted June 11, 2015 I purchased a mint XV, it came with two batteries and a brand new case for £1,000. Its a superb camera for the money
asiafish Posted June 11, 2015 Share #72 Posted June 11, 2015 I'm still very happy with mine, but since I bought the X (113) I don't use it as much as I used to.

likealot Posted July 1, 2015 Share #79 Posted July 1, 2015 Thank you for the offers and info guys but I think I will go for a brand new UK model. I have found a couple of websites (SLRHut and Expedite Electrical) which sell them at around £1k but I believe they are Asian shops which will invalidate the warranty. There's also Rakuten.co.uk but I am not sure if they sell grey market products or not?
colonel Posted July 2, 2015 Share #80 Posted July 2, 2015 Leica warranty is worldwide. The only think you loose by not buying from a UK dealer is the 1 year passport. Rgds
