Graafber Posted November 3, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted November 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear forum readers, Â Â Â Since 2 weeks I make use of the Leica X type 113. I use this camera on those moments I do not like to carry the M or during moments I have to take photos fast, so I can make use of auto focus. So I am used to shoot with Leica. Never experienced white balance issues. Â Â Â Has anybody the feeling/experience that the white belance is often NOT correct. I really have to make use of lightroom to adapt the white balance?? What to do, any tips? Â Â Â Sent from my Surface Pro 2 using Tapatalk
Advertisement Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Hi Graafber, Take a look here Leica X Type 113, white balance. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
davidmknoble Posted November 3, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted November 3, 2014 First, the X has a great white balance manual setting - pull up the menu, take a photo of something white and move on.... Â However, remember that is for the JPEG only. The RAW file stores a setting, but it is just raw data anyway. Â I have been using the X under early morning light with sodium street lights (read orange lights, blue sky) and the white balance has been right, unscientifically, by about 90% of the time. Â Overall, I am happy with white balance in the situations I use the camera...
Graafber Posted November 3, 2014 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 3, 2014 Thanks for your response. I was thinking after your comments, I only shoot raw and jpeg fine. When I import in lightroom, I only see the raw file and never the jpeg? I made some jpeg photo's in B&W and they did not show up. Only the converted dng with often white balance problems. Only the converted dng with often white balance problems.  I'm new to Lightroom, but I believe that when you import photos into the program, there's an option to not import duplicate files (see screenshot below). From my limited experience, Lightroom reads the jpegs as duplicates and so won't add them into the catalog. But the jpgs should be in the same folder on your hard drive as the raw files. Default is to merge them to one and ignore the JPEG. The setting you show is to avoid importing a file more than once so it adds so wing like copy2 on the end. I'm not at my computer, will have to look for exact spot on JPEG setting. Will try to do...
Graafber Posted November 4, 2014 Author Share #6 Â Posted November 4, 2014 Thanks for your comments, I will look into this. Can that also be a part of my white balance issue. Don't think so, but you never know. They all look a bit grey blue. Â Â Â Sent from my Surface Pro 2 using Tapatalk
Archiver Posted November 4, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted November 4, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Graafber, was just wondering which version of Lightroom you are using? I know that the X113 outputs DNG's, but perhaps you're using an older version that doesn't have the optimal profile?
wda Posted November 4, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted November 4, 2014 In tricky lighting conditions, do consider the use of a calibrated grey-card, such as the Pantone ColorChecker. I habitually use one. In LR, select all images in Develop module and press W key. Then place it on the second from top right grey cell. Magic! All colour cast is neutralized! If you so wish, you can fine-tune WB for individual images; but generally it will be spot on. Â As for jpegs. Just process the raw files and export to another place on your HDD any jpeg versions you wish to use as attachments.
dNorm Posted November 4, 2014 Share #9  Posted November 4, 2014 As of this writing, Adobe LR does not support custom profile(s) for the Leica X (Typ 113), however it will open the DNG file using the embedded profile, which is not the same as a calibrated profile. Cheers. -Norm  Graafber, was just wondering which version of Lightroom you are using? Graafber Posted November 4, 2014 Author Share #10 Â Posted November 4, 2014 Thanks for the reactions. Just for the record, I make use of lightroom 5, latest version. Â Â Â If I understand last comment well, the white balance will be solved as soon Type 113 is part of lightroom? Â Ah, thanks, David--that's helpful to know. I'd find it occasionally useful to see the jpeg and the raw file side by side just so I could see how the X2 processed the jpeg. Â (I used Apple's Aperture for years but have just switched to Lightroom so I've got a bit of a learning curve ahead of me!)
