madNbad Posted November 2, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) This may have been answered before but I have looked without much success. Yesterday I bought a LTM 35 mm 3.5 Summaron with a finder and a Leitz NY H filter. The lens had previously belonged to one of the sales staff and is in very clean condition. I was looking for a small lens for my M2 and this fits the bill quite well. When I started looking for a serial number I was unable to locate one. The lens in marked in feet, so intended for the US market. I read somewhere occasionally Elmars' were paired with an enlarger, leaving the lens itself without a serial number. I'll attach an image. Advertisement Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Hi madNbad, Take a look here Summaron with no serial number. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted November 2, 2014 Share #2 Posted November 2, 2014 Hum.. the s/n in those Summaron was usually engraved in the black front rim... and often (expecially in the first years, and in the items without "Gmbh" writing) was NOT filled with white paint... maybe you have to inspect carefully the front ring... seems there is "something" which COULD resemble part of a serial number : Welcome, dear visitor! Maybe , if the lens was restored and the black ring repainted, the s/n could have almost disappeared... It is VERY little (I checked my item, is difficult to read without a lens...) and the position is that... is the conic-shaped inner ring with two inlets around the diameter to insert a tool for dismounting the optical cell (see herunder an example : this writing of the number is bigger than mine, which is "without Gmbh" as yours)
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! madNbad Posted November 2, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted November 2, 2014 I guess I'll have to dig out the magnifiying glass. Thanks Luigi, found it on the inside of the front rim.(714...)
luigi bertolotti Posted November 3, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2014 Yup, same year as mine (1949, my one is 750.961, also it with feet scale) so probably with the same supertiny elusive black-on-black number... . (but the littlest I found is on an Elmar 100 for enlarger that I bought time ago... it took one week and a long thread on the forum to find and decipher it... )
