There seems to be very little out there - especially recently published - very few images on Flickr etc.. Â I was looking for a faster 75mm lens than my CV 75mm 2.5 and chanced upon one from a trader I have used before online. It's (limited) reputation was that it was sharp wide open with very smooth oof. Seemed to fit the bill and was less than the next obvious choice of a used CV 75mm 1.8 - which has a reputation as a portrait lens (so perhaps less sharp wide open). Â Received it the next day (yesterday) and I am amazed with the test shots - even at high iso. Simply stunning - I cannot believe there is not more information out there. Â Once I get sorted I'll get some images up - have put one on the "view from older glasss" thread for starters. Â Are there many of these lenses out there? Congratulations on finding one - I was looking for one earlier this year, but I hardly saw one this side of the Atlantic. I heard they are heavy - is that the case? Ecar Posted November 3, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted November 3, 2014 Congratulations! The 85/1.8 is hard to find, relatively expensive and arguably the best Canon 85mm RF lens made. It's definitely one of my favourites, particularly on the MM. If you like its rendering, you may want to have a go at its older sibling, the 100/2. Had to make specific shims to have it calibrated on my M9, nearly nailed it. I have a CV 75mm and Tele-Elmarit 90mm that I have done some quick comparisons at various apertures and 200/3200 iso on an M and it certainly performs well at the equivalent f stop of 2.8 for all three. At 1.8 you would expect some fall off but it still remains sharp. I would like to see how it performs against a 75 Summilux at 1.8. I have not tested focus shift and again it would be interesting to see how it compares. Â Given the lack of information/images around on what is obviously a stellar lens I suspect that this is harder to find available than hens teeth. Thanks.  we know who will win at f/1.4  A clean copy of the 85/1.8 is considered by some to be the best RF lens ever made by Canon. "Against the Lux", LOL If I had a 75 Lux I would sleep with it.  Funny though many who do have one rarely use it.  Canon is about 470 grams, while the Lux is a front heavy 560 grams.  But the real 200 gram Canon RF sleeper is: photo (2) by unoh7, Canon RF 100/3.5  DSC08099-1 by unoh7,Canon Brochure  This little thing, if clean, is wicked wicked sharp.  I also have a LN copy of that you 85/1.9 you see in the brochure, which is a gorgeous 600 gram thing with many blades.  The Lux is not the best lens to compare these old ones to, because it's half old-school too! Put that little 100 up against the macro elmar or CV 90/3.5 and the biggest difference you see I think is in the colors.  The modern RF glass makes very very rich color.  One the other hand maybe you want the older muddy look in some situations, or maybe you are shooting B&W.  Also note the prices. Unlike the 1.8, which is near unobtanium, the 1.9 can be found for around 200USD or even less.  It has an incredible build, and appears stellar, but it's much heavier than the 1.8.  There was a late "black version" of this same lens, which might be lighter.  PS what a shame this forum is so often crazy slow to load.
