Another thing, while I wait on the Series VI filter, I assume that the knurled knob on LHS of lens mount is to rotate the lens barrel for portrait format? Lens seems to be stuck solid, no rotation...

The black knob on the focus head is indeed to rotate the lens from landscape to portrait or anywhere in between.

It is a fantastic lens when it is working correctly. Of course the problem to discover is if the issue is in the focus module or in the lens head. Without another focus module, it will hard to tell.

Leica is doing the CLA. Turnaround from DAG (quote: "Difficult lens to work on") has often been longer for simpler lenses. It's almost enough to drive me to CaNikon

Thanks Doug. I have a Vario-R 105-280/4.2 that almost reaches infinity, but not quite.

Who do you suggest I should send it to? TIA.

I send my equipment to the technician I feel most comfortable with. For Leicaflexes either DAG or Sherry Krauter is my choice. I send APO lenses to Leica.

I've had good experience and bad experience with Leica, DAG and Sherry K but eventually they've all stood behind their work.

When my APO Telyt 1.4x focus module went into Leica for service, it went to Germany through NJ. I think it took a couple of months, but I was gone at sea during that time, so I am not sure of the exact time for the repair. It was also just a fairly simple dis-assemble and clean, no modifications.

It will soon be on its way back to me :-)

I like to inform you about the above mentioned equipment and the repair we finally and successfully finished. As mentioned earlier this is a non-standard repair and success will remain open till the end.

I need to point out in your case it was more than tricky and we had to improvise. You will now reach infinity by absolutely physical limit. !!! But focusing to infinity should be done smooth and carefully !!!! When infinity is closely reached do not turn over with power / pressure. If so you will damage the lens and that can not be repaired again.

Under special circumstances – very hot / very cold – the image can be out of alignment (infinity) caused by material expansion. This was the compromise we had to take. Otherwise the service couldn’t be offered at all. I hope for understanding and further more I hope you will realize what we made happen for you – our customer.

In case of any questions please let me know. Otherwise I wish you unforgettable moments with your equipment made by Leica.
