I have just bought an early 560mm f4.0, everything looks good other than it will not focus further than about 40m :-( I have tried with R9 and M(240) with similar results. It does not have any Series 6 filter but I would not have thought that would make the difference?

I will contact Wetzlar but any ideas from here? It is so far out that something looks very wrong....

Hi John,

there must be always a series 6 filter in the Leica Apo Module Lens, while this is a part of the lens design. So this

will most likely cause your focus problem.

Hi John,

on the older Leica APO 2,8/400mm, which is superior to the later module system, the screw you

described is to fix the focus point to a certain point. So if you shoot sports you can have the focus preset to

this point ( i.E. the goal) and reach it fastly with a turn.

Best Regards,

Moritz

Thanks. So this might cause the problem!

Hi Moritz, there is another ring by the focus ring (so on focus module) which limits the close focus. You can see the arrow and locking pin in this shot

The one I am talking about is under (or to the left in this image) the Leica logo

Thanks Gary, should arrive this week to go with my Series 5.5, VII and VIII filters ;-) I do not think that will cure it, too far out as I tried my 280/4 with and without filter with negligible results, so asked Lacklands (NZ importers) to make some enquiries....

No worries John.

And I tend to agree with you. I know from personal experience that the thickness of a filter makes a slight, but not huge difference to the focus point.

Not as much as I guess you are talking, something is definitely wrong within.

Gary
