richfx Posted October 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some, but not all, MM photos taken recently display strange artifacts when PP'd in SEP 2. Does anyone know what these are or might be - there are three separate square shapes visible in this image - and what steps should be taken to remedy it? My M9 is at Leica NJ now for a sensor replacement (its second), but I haven't heard that MM sensors suffered problems such as this. Perhaps it is only the software. Has anyone else experienced this with an MM and/or SEP 2? Best, Rich Welcome, dear visitor! richfx Posted October 26, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted October 26, 2014 The original MM DNG files don't contain these artifacts, so I suspect they are SEP 2 / software induced. Here is another image run through SEP 2 twice. Each has two or three such boxes, but in different locations. Rich Welcome, dear visitor! pico Posted October 26, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 26, 2014 Yes, I agree that it is a software bug. My bet is that the tiling routine is messed up. Is there an update for Silver Efex Pro?
ramosa Posted October 27, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2014 Very strange. I have used SEP via LR with a number of cameras (e.g., M8, M9, RX1, GR4, GR) and never experienced anything like this.
skinnfell Posted October 27, 2014 Share #5 Posted October 27, 2014 First thing I think when I see these is card error. Or at least some sort of damage to the file in writing. Either on the camera or while tranferring to computer. I had this happen to my canons during a severe thunderstorm, and I have also seen it happen on worn out cards. I don't think your camera is to blame but you should do some futher testing with different cards.
250swb Posted October 27, 2014 Share #6 Posted October 27, 2014 The original MM DNG files don't contain these artifacts, so I suspect they are SEP 2 / software induced. You cannot see a .dng file, it has to be something, such as a JPEG or a TIFF, so if you aren't seeing the artefacts when converting the .dng in ACR, nor presumably in Lightroom or Photoshop before importing them to SEP, maybe the corruption is being revealed by SEP rather than SEP causing it. What sort of file are you importing into SEP, a JPEG, or a TIFF? Work back from there to see if you have done anything unusual. Steve
