Scott the set button is used to confirm as with other menu options. the default is 18mm

I agree that is the safe procedure. After the sequence

-- set focal length to 16, confirm, switch off and then on again, don't press set but just touch the shutter while it says "16" --

info and EXIF both say 18 mm, but the next time I start up, it is still offering to stay at 16. So it remembers 16 somewhere even after it got me to the default of 18. I wonder which vignetting correction it is applying, 16 or 18? My hunch is that the 18 default is being supplied by something in the "ON" routines.

I just received the 9cm adapter from J Milich & it is a nice brass piece of work.I coded it (WATE) easily with 1 black mark(enamel polish) without the white marks & it works beautifully .I have been able to set it @ 16 mm as per Sean's comments & certainly with UV/IR on without a filter there is bad red corner drift. That said with 16mm lens detection on only, the vignetting is easly taken care of in Camera Raw/Lightroom. I taped a 46mm leica UV/IR lens to the hood & there is too much vignetting from the lens.I taped the 46mm (black electrical) to the Helair lens without the lens hood & there is still a tiny bit of vignettting. I did notice that the greens in the picture were much more natural & saturated & the cyan/red drift was much improved but because of the virgnette from the lens the corners are hard to evaluate. I was going to post pic but noticed I had set the 18 mm(default setting) instead od the 16 mm so I will try again tomorrow(dusk here now).I have a 77mm adapter for the Heliar & am awaiting a 77mm B & W UV/IR filter from Popflash. Alway a challenge but I just enjoy this lens!

For those of you following this thread and the discussion re a possible Milich adapter for the Heliar 12mm, I have sent off my 12mm to John Milich so he can try to figure out how to produce a filter holder other than the 77mm. John said he'd be looking at it next week, and I assume he will report his findings and whether there is a sensible approach after he has had some time to do so.

Great, thanks Alan. I've already jury-rigged an adapter. A real one should be quite doable - esp. for John who is very good at this stuff.

John,

You can try a 55 pretty close to the front element bulge but this lens on the M8 might need a 60.

Cheers,

Sean
