LvB Posted October 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I need help. I have been using third party battery for Panasonic (DMW-BCJ13E) as spare to my original Leica battery for quite sometime without any problems at all. Only recently that the D-Lux 5 keeps rejecting the spare battery giving out message "THIS BATTERY CANNOT BE USED" and shut itself off while the original Leica battery works fine. At first I thought the spare ran out its life so I got myself a new spare of the same. However, the same problem remains for the new spare. I am at loss of what happens if third party battery cannot be used then it should have been rejected since I got the first one. Is it a spare battery issue or software issue? Advice is needed to solve this problem. Thank.

dorman Posted October 19, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2014 Did you upgrade the firmware just before this started happening?
LvB Posted October 19, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted October 19, 2014 No, the firmware was already version 2.0 when I got D-Lux 5 in 2012. As it stands right now I can only use the original Leica battery only right?
dorman Posted October 19, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 19, 2014 As far as I know a "chipped" 3rd party battery should work. I can't explain why your spare used to work and doesn't now. Sorry.
LvB Posted October 21, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted October 21, 2014 Thank for your help anyway. I will try to find out what went wrong with Leica Service Center, if there is any here in Bangkok, Thailand. FYI, I got my D-Lux 5 in Austria while I was on vacation. wda Posted October 21, 2014 Share #6 Posted October 21, 2014 I doubt that Leica would help with a non-Leica battery. Why compromise when the genuine Leica battery will give you a long life of reliability?
LvB Posted October 21, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted October 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) The reason I use non-Leica battery because I can't get Leica battery here in Bangkok.
wda Posted October 21, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 21, 2014 If you have a Leica agent in the country, he should be able to obtain a new battery for you. Alternatively, I am sure someone will advise an Asian agent who would ship to you. Worth exploring.
gabriel Posted October 21, 2014 Share #9 Posted October 21, 2014 I use the Panasonic No DMWBCJ13E Battery on my Leica D Lux 5 without problems. It is the Panasonic battery for the Panasonic camera on which the D Lux 5 is based. It is half the price of the Leica battery and you may well be able to find one in Thailand. dkCambridgeshire Posted November 2, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 2, 2014 (edited) I have the exact same 'This battery cannot be used' problem with my D-Lux 5 and it only started happening recently; and no recent firmware updates. Up until 4 weeks ago the third party battery worked fine. Sometimes if I persevere with the third party battery and turn the camera on and off and/or take out the battery and place it back in again the camera will work - but then will close down again after a few exposures. I've also been using a third party battery with my X1 and XV but noticed recently that the battery is 'swelling' and is slightly barrel shaped - so rather than risk it exploding if it becomes more swollen the battery will be ditched via my local battery recycling facility at Boots Chemist. Best wishes dunk Edited November 2, 2014 by dkpeterborough
