ROCKY BALBORA awsome light and lens choice

Just saw the Rocky Balbora movie on DVD and was taken by the light and choice of lenses with DOF in the first hour of the movie.

That alone make it worth seeing (besides that, a slow but nice feelgood movie)

I took a few shots of the screen to show what I mean. In the "extras" on the DVD one can see a glimse of the lighting setups that made the light look like it does. I'm sure they 'graded' it as well in the computer.

It might have been digi remastered but I think you will find the qualitites are imparted by the way the original was shot back those days before motion picture when they used to shoot each frame with a view camera and stick all the pieces together and ...

Yes, this was the latest Rocky movie, released in 2006. Sly Stallone is 60 years old! He's in good shape for that age, got to give him props.

I just got the rental on Blu-Ray, but have yet to watch. Will keep an eye on the photography --- thanks for the heads up.

Jeff.

Hi Thorsten,

I found an interesting PDF on the topic for you: http://www.evertz.com/resources/Rocky-Balboa_2006.Dec.pdf

They talk highly of lenses they call Master Primes, but one of the cameras has a Carl Zeiss lense mounted. Carl Zeiss is heavy in Hollywood with an technical 'Oscar' for their lenses. And indeed; could that be the series of lenses that carl Zeiss call 'Master Primes': Welcome to Carl Zeiss Camera and Cine Lenses The ZM lenses are supposed to be the fruits of Carl Zeiss's Hollywood experience....

You/me....... separated at birth....... Ben Hur was a good movie, although Heston's make-up was perhaps a little tacky in reel 3........
