Hi,

I can get a new relatively cheap (without leather case and boxes) Leica 21-24-28 mm Viewfinder. There´s only about a 90 dollar/60 euro difference.

What is the best option when I plan to use it with the CV 15mm?

Thanks in advance for the thoughts,

Hi Chuck,

I´m not sure what you mean. Isn`t it possible to buy a separate 21mm viewfinder from CV? The euro pricing is like this:

CV 15mm € 349 (includes a 15mm viewfinder)

CV 21mm Viewfinder only € 139

Leica 21-24-28 Viewfinder € 199 (new, but without leather case, box, etc)

regards,

Yes, you can buy the CV viewfinder separately. I am just saying that the difference between buying a CV 21/4 lens with finder and buying the CV 21mm finder alone, probably around 200, is a small price to pay for the lens. I needed the finder, bought the lens + finder, and now have a nice lens in addition to the finder I needed.

If you have no use for the 21mm lens, none of that will matter to you!

Okay, I see what you mean. Yes, that might be an option also. The CV 21mm lens with viewfinder is also € 349. So for € 210 extra you get a 21mm lens. I do have the leica 24mm so there is "no real need" for the 21mm.

Thanks for the suggestion!

does the cv21 finder that comes with the lens, the same (with framelines) finder that sold separately?

I was able to buy the 15mm CCV lens, with the 21 mm finder in place of the 15 mm finder. That seemed like a good deal also.

Never thought of asking for that... sounds like the best deal of all. (But I'm not sorry I bought the CV 21/4, either.)

which frame lines come up with cv21? if 28, we wouldnt need a finder period, right?

Steve Gandy at CameraQuest used to do this a while back, but he stopped. I guess those 15mm finder were piling up in his store :)

Which frame lines come up depend on which M-mount adapter you use to mount it (it's a screw mount lens), but as Scott says none of the frame lines are right. I use the whole camera viewfinder (outside the frame lines) for the 21 and it is not terribly far off.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have been through the same considerations, having a 15mm and a 21mm lens. The Leica 21-24-28 finder would have covered both but I still decided against it and bought two separate (both CV) finders. Why? The 21-24-28 is HUGE. Make sure you see the thing for real before buying it.

when I bought the 15C/V, I was able to get it with the 21 finder. Then I got the 12C/V, but had to order a 15 finder for that, as it comes with a 12mm finder. so now I have the 12, 15 and 21. anybody want a 12? by the way, the only difference between the 15 and 21 finders is that frame lines for the 21 are in the 21 finder...one could still use the 15 finder for the 15 lens and compensate. so now does anybody want a 12 and a 15 finder?
