pmu Posted October 4, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted October 4, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Â I'm trying to get information about Summicron-m 35/2 asph black paint version. I saw this particular lens which was (based on the serial number) made in 2005. It had a standard square type Leica hood (12524) and not the round metal type that is often seen with the black paint edition. Â Did they sell this lens in 2005 with a body + lens kit or was it also sold separately? Did they come with that 12524 hood? Â All info would be very appreciated. Jon Pop Posted October 5, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted October 5, 2014 By 'black paint' I'm assuming you mean the glossy black laquer finish - they have red rather than yellow numbering. I've seen them on eBay, usually (you're right) with a 12504 laquered hood, or sometimes no hood at all. The square hood of course fits because the lens is identical to all other 35 'cron asph lenses. The M6TTL Millennium model came in a kit which also included a 50 Summilux also in black paint...not the Asph most current version, but gorgeous all the same. Â I've been debating the 35 black paint 'cron asph for a while...it's always a lot more money than the regular black...but it would just look so damn sexy on my black paint MP...which also has red on the shutter dial and rewind knob! Â Thanks for reply. Yes, the lens had a similar paint/lacquer like MP and the numbering was red/reddish. I bet it would look great with black paint/lacquered M body It also had a Leica leather lens pouch, front cap, front cap for the hood, and rear cap. Â If anyone knows was this kind of setup sold with a kit or separately please share your even small bits of info.
wattsy Posted October 5, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted October 5, 2014 The black paint 35 Summicron was also sold separately. I bought one in early 2007 and it came in a regular black and silver box. It came with the round hood, a normal lens cap and an alternative round metal lens cap (plus the usual leather case, etc.). It didn't come with the square hood (I bought that separately). I bought the lens new from a UK dealer who was selling it at a discounted price compared to the regular black chrome version. It is a very nice lens to use, super smooth and with a nice weight that balances nicely on an M body. I used it as my main lens for a number of years and then sold it during the Leica lens bubble of 2011 for twice what I originally paid and replaced it with a current 35 Summilux. Whilst the latter is the better lens in many respects, it is also bigger, balances less well and, with the floating elements, doesn't focus as silkily as the Summicron. That black paint Summicron is the only lens that I regret selling.
peter_n Posted November 16, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted November 16, 2014 ^ +1. My BP 35/2 ASPH also came with the round hood which I replaced with the square one like Ian did. My experience mirrors his; it's just a wonderful lens to use. Â At the time I bought the BP 35/2 I also used a Wetzlar 8-element 35/2 and a Summilux 35 ASPH. I kept the three lenses for a couple of years but finally sold the Summilux, also in 2011 oddly enough. Â I now use just the 8-element v.1 and the BP ASPH and don't miss the Summilux to be honest.
