jlindstrom Posted September 17, 2014 Share #21 Posted September 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having now read more on the new X, I actually like it even better! There are lot of small upgrades from the X2, so it's a much more mature product. Some of the highlights for me: - better evf -> 2.3 million pixels, this should be nice. Apparently same base screen as Sony A7. No complaints, it's a good one. - eye level sensor finally! I hated the extra button press in the X2 & M240 - apparently better AF, certainly welcome - better rear lcd, certainly welcome - real mechanical manual focus! - lens not extending - faster & better lens, though previous X's were not bad either - video is actually welcome, hesitated with it in the M240 and it turned out useful. expect same here So, many nice improvements. Now, if they will add focus peaking in a firmware update.. that would really rock. Need to start saving money, I think I'll get this to compliment my M240 as a small travel cam. I already liked the X2, so this should be brilliant. //Juha
Advertisement Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Hi jlindstrom, Take a look here Leica X Typ 113 update. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Archiver Posted September 17, 2014 Share #22 Posted September 17, 2014 - real mechanical manual focus! I don't think it's 'real' mechanical focus. It appears to be a very accurate focus by wire in a system like that used in the X Vario. Nevertheless, hardly anyone else is doing this apart from Olympus in two or three lenses. The press release says that it is available now! Be still, my beating wallet!
microview Posted September 17, 2014 Share #23 Posted September 17, 2014 I don't think it's 'real' mechanical focus. It appears to be a very accurate focus by wire in a system like that used in the X Vario. Nevertheless, hardly anyone else is doing this apart from Olympus in two or three lenses. Jonathan Slack's review might imply either method! "It has a proper manual focus ring, with a distance scale, unlike the normal ‘focus by wire’ found on similar, small, fixed focal length cameras." jlindstrom Posted September 17, 2014 Share #24 Posted September 17, 2014 Yea, Jono's review was the one pushing me thinking it's mechanical. XV's focus is ok, but mechanical would be perfection On the other hand that quote could also mean the focus ring is of proper size.
Ecaton Posted September 17, 2014 Share #25 Posted September 17, 2014 Couldn`t resist after having read Jono`s review. Mine is on the way to me, just got it confirmed from the Leica store and hopefully it will arrive before the weekend.

jhluxton Posted September 17, 2014 Share #27 Posted September 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I really want this camera, have only recently bought an XVario back In June and funds are low! i was going to probably retain my X1 for low light work, but this looks like a great replacement for the X1 but I will have to wait for a few months. Nick_S Posted September 18, 2014 Share #30 Posted September 18, 2014 It appears to be inferior to the Sony RX1 which has a full-frame sensor and also an excellent lens. Perhaps, one day Leica can give us a full-frame digital CM with built in optical viewfinder, as quite a few folks here have asking for over the years. Perhaps, one day Leica can give us a full-frame digital CM with built in optical viewfinder, as quite a few folks here have asking for over the years. Nick I had the RX1 and the file quality it produces is outstanding, no question. Its too pronounced barrel distortion and not so great ergonomics made me sell it. I felt the body to be too small in comparison to the lens. I bought the X113 because of its lens (a true Leica), straight forward no nonsense user interface I learned to appreciate with the XV, the brilliant MF implementation and MF/AF switch. Eventually, I hope the performance of the X113 to be greater than the sum of its parts, as is the case with many Leicas. Thereby not loosing much in terms of final file quality as compared to the spec wise superior Sony.

wda Posted September 18, 2014 Share #33 Posted September 18, 2014 I like the higher specification but note that a hand-grip, a feature accessory for all other X models, is not listed in the price-list for accessories. That won't trouble many people, but for those who suffer occasionally with arthritic wrists, it is bad news.

But it's visible in some product photos with a M240-style finger loop, so maybe coming later? Or does it actually share measures with XV using same grip? //Juha
Archiver Posted September 19, 2014 Share #35 Posted September 19, 2014 Is anyone else itching to see Ecaton's first impressions of the X that will soon be in his hands??? Hi David As someone else suggested - I see no reason why the hand grip from the XVario will not work perfectly. I've compared the baseplate and size, and they seem to be identical. all the best
