bencoyote Posted November 4, 2014 Share #21 Posted November 4, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here is my wish list for future Leica-T lenses: Summilux-T 35mm f/1.4 (50mm equiv) Summilux-T 57mm f/1.4 (85mm equiv) f/1.2 would be nice would that be a Nocticron or a Noctilux? Macro-Elmar-T 60mm f/4-22 (90mm equiv) The*tiny f/22 is handy when doing close macro work but what is the diffraction limit for a APS-C lens? I think that is why their 23 and 18-56 have a minimum aperture of f/16. Maybe we have focus bracketing in addition to exposure bracketing? Vario-Summilux-T 16-56 f/1.7-2.8 (24-80mm equiv) The 18-56 evidently uses a fairly simple design. I hope that Leica uses clever lenses design to minimize lens size like is done on m43 15mm f/1.7 and on Panasonic LX100/D-Lux 7. From what I understand the key to this design is that instead of one focusing group this lens has multiple groups moving independently when focusing. I hope that Leica will see the T as a new lighthouse of lens design (ref: LFI 2.2014) with different constraints than the M and rise to the occasion. I think we all would like faster lenses which maintain the same IQ corner to corner. That and the UI seem to be the thing that makes the T something special and not just another APS-C mirrorless camera. Smaller and lighter while maintaining the same capability would be great but it seems like they are doing fairly well in this regard. Not exceptional but pretty good. I would also appreciate it if they made their lenses and also the body dust and water sealed. I don't think it would take much for the body because it has so few ports and buttons. IkarusJohn Posted November 4, 2014 Share #22 Posted November 4, 2014 What he said. My initial thought was than a couple of Otus quality lenses would be great; then it occurred to me that I already have primes of that quality of most focal lengths from 15 to 135 which work very well with the M adapter. I would love a faster, higher quality AF zoom with good manual override in that sweet spot from 24 to 90 (16-56 would be fine) - a fixed aperture of f/2 would be great ... ASPH, FLE? APO? This is not a kit lens ...
bencoyote Posted November 13, 2014 Share #23 Posted November 13, 2014 Also thinking about the next lenses a different way, I think that it could be potentially beneficial to Leica if they made the T a kind of transition camera toward the the M. Toward that end, I was thinking that some fairly easy things that they could do would be: Aperture ring on the lens similar to the Panasonic-Leica 15mm f/1.7 This would make the camera a nice transition to the M system and get people using the camera in the traditional style. Stops at minimum and infinity focus length rather than having a free spinning manual focus ring. I think that one of the reviews on dpreview.com explains it well in their review of the new X Type 113 A second glance: two takes on the Leica X: Digital Photography Review "When compared to other focus-by-wire systems, this camera does things well. The focus ring has hard stops at minimum focus and infinity within less than one 360-degree revolution (something Olympus has also got right on a handful of its Micro Four Thirds lenses). This solves two major problems with focus-by-wire systems. First, it means minimum and infinity are always where you left them. There aren't any sort of algorithms calculating how fast the focus mechanism should move based on how quickly the ring was turned, and it means that infinity isn't going to be anywhere from 1 to 16 turns away: it will always be within one turn of the wrist. Plus, this system enables Leica to paint on a pretty distance scale instead of forcing you to stare at a screen to estimate focus distance. Combine this easy to use manual focusing with focus peaking and finally there is a compact camera with fast, simple manual focusing." Manual focus tab - once again this makes a nice transition to the flagship M system and it provides a visual reference as to where the focus is set. colonel Posted November 14, 2014 Share #24 Posted November 14, 2014 although this camera is not selling badly, personally I think that a stellar 35mm or 50mm prime f14 (or below) prime would do wonders for its sales
tom0511 Posted November 17, 2014 Share #25 Posted November 17, 2014 OK...here I go: IMO f.14 or faster AF lenses would be pretty big for the current Leica T body - so the 35/2.0 and the current and announced zooms seem like the right compromise between size and speed IMO. It would be great to have the choice between some faster primes and some slower/smaller primes. I now also prefer 21/3.4 35/2.0 and 50/2.0 on the M and have sold the 21/24/1.4, and also the 50/.95 because of that reason.
Mr10Percent Posted November 18, 2014 Share #26 Posted November 18, 2014 I purchased both the intro lenses for my T but have been blown away with the Nocti 0.95. I am re-learning the technical aspects of photography for the first time in 25-odd years and manual focus is a hoot. It is on the body more times that the other lenses combined. The Nocti – especially on the T is a handful – because of weight, grip and balance (lack of) but loads of fun. It’s running at 75mm which is great for portraits – especially at night/indoors. I rarely use the 23mm and can see this going back to my Dealer as a part-swap for something. The 18-56T is great for on the go snaps where weight and comfort are more important. For me, the whole zoom range is well-covered either now or proposed future. I think the 23mmT should have been a Lux (or marginally faster 1.2) rather than the Cron. Everything else can be really covered by the M-series lenses. I really can’t see a huge amount of AF primes being developed for the T unless there is either a future higher spec body which will replace/update the M or that Leica have sold a huge amount of T’s making it worth their while. I would love a three-finger snap-in grip loop to improve grip on the T – wrist straps don’t work in the same way. That’s me.
