lorchj Posted May 4, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My camera freezes about once a day, after 60 - 80 shots. When I remove the battery briefly, it works again. I see from other threads that this appears to be a common problem. Has anyone figured out what the cause is? Is this a firmware issue? What gets fixed when it is send in for repair? It feels like taking the battery out and replacing is rebooting the camera. Thanks

charlesphoto99 Posted May 4, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 4, 2007 I believe this is grounds for repair or replacement. Mine did the same thing but not nearly so often. Welcome to the world of the M8.
wparsonsgisnet Posted May 4, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 4, 2007 Jonathan, before you send your beloved M8 off for service, you might try recalibrating the L-ion battery. This involves running the battery all the way down and then recharging it. The process gives the smarts in the battery information about voltage levels, I believe. You can run it down by setting your M8 not to go off and then hitting the preview button so that a pic appears on the viewing screen. Note: when I did this the shot counter in my M8 reset. That's not a big deal. I have several batteries and did not do this for each. When the indicator gets to the last 1/3, I replace the battery.
odyocu Posted May 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 6, 2007 In my case, I went back to the previous firmware for a while, then redownloaded the new firmware and reinstalled it. I don't have that problem at present (now about 2 weeks). Just give it a try. Seyhun My camera freezes about once a day, after 60 - 80 shots. When I remove the battery briefly, it works again. lorchj Posted May 7, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted May 7, 2007 Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'll give it a try. The problem is, that it is very hard to replicate this issue, and I'm still curious what Leica does when you send this in for repair. Do they think this is a power, or a software problem?
