Advertisement Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Hi Leicatime, Take a look here It's late 2014 - is it worth to buy an X1?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted August 14, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 14, 2014 Great little camera if you work within its limitations. It has an excellent lens and a terrific sensor. And should be a used bargain now, given its age.
wda Posted August 14, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 14, 2014 I agree with Andy. My X1 is probably my most used camera since it is rarely left at home. I love its compactness, ruggedness, neat design, superb lens and performance and am prepared to put up with its small failings. However a new successor with a Summarit lens and more modern sensor just might tempt me to upgrade. It would be a close call.
Steve Lane Posted August 14, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 14, 2014 Prices have tumbled, so if you can find one that fits your budget I would try one out. I am still using mine and it remains my go to digital camera. It has a few idiosyncrasies to get used to, but the image quality still never fails to impress me. prk60091 Posted August 15, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 15, 2014 The IQ is amazing. The quirks are many. Current prices make it a steal. Did I mention it takes great images.
Manoleica Posted August 15, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 15, 2014 Hi, the X1 will always be a great camera (quirks aside) - Like the E-Type was a great car.. Everything gets superseded.. but that does't detract from the X1's IQ,, This was 1 of the very 1st images I took with the X1 (Monterey Peninsula) Regards, L. Welcome, dear visitor! dkCambridgeshire Posted August 16, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 16, 2014 Some X2 users who also have or had the X1, maintain that the X1 has better IQ. dunk
Guest Posted August 16, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 16, 2014 Some X2 users who also have or had the X1, maintain that the X1 has better IQ. dunk yes, X1 with 12 MP vs. X2 with 16 MP - 12 MP is the reason for a better IQ, but X2 is also a excellent leica. atournas Posted August 17, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 17, 2014 ... And don't forget the lack of video, so you'll be holding a real (!) camera. The image is a 100% crop from a hand-held shot. Guest DrPix Posted August 17, 2014 Share #11 Posted August 17, 2014 It´s a real gem. I DEEPLY regret selling it. Thanks God I have found a "consolation substitute" - X Vario:) Here are some X1 shots from Venics. nippa Posted August 17, 2014 Share #12 Posted August 17, 2014 Much as I like my X1 , you can now do better for both speed and IQ although the cache of a real Leica has some merit. Just ignore the poor flash mechanism , peeling skin and dodgy buttons. A used Fuji X100S or Canon G1X will produce similar or better IQ when used properly with the correct RAW converters and a used Sigma DP camera beats the lot - although in a very niche manner.Even the tiny Sony RX100 ( original version ) gives the X1 a run for its money. Recently I've been shooting the X1 side by side with other cameras and I no longer see its images as exceptional or with unique quality. Still looking at the XV though ; just waiting for new firmware!
AshNZ Posted August 19, 2014 Share #13 Posted August 19, 2014 Just bought one recently for $400 to pair with my M240. Lovely little camera, I leave it in my bag at all times and I'm not concerned with losing it or theft (like I am the M). It prints up to A3 no problem. Nice bokeh too if you get in close. Digitom Posted August 23, 2014 Share #14 Posted August 23, 2014 To answer your question shortly: YES, definitely. I bought a new, not used(!) X1 from a seller (was the last one he had) for only 800 €. The serial number was one of the latest ones. Before I saw that offer, I was thinking about an X2. Finally I switched to the X1 because the price was really good and I think the IQ is surely comparable to the X2. I bought also a hand grip, a protector case and the optical viewfinder. Works really wonderful. After heavy using in the past few month I can say I love that little camera. Lacks? I can say - not really. Slow AF is not my prpblem, maybe that results from the new firmware which was already installed on my X1? For my need it is very ok and I do not taking photos in sports etc. Finally I can recommend the X1. The IQ is -for me- outstanding. Aperture 2.8 is - - ok, 2.0 would be better and more "Leica like", but I had to take what was offered. No regret until now. Handling and feeling is wonderful - classic. Krauthead Posted August 25, 2014 Share #15 Posted August 25, 2014 Leica X1 takes photographs that are basically as good as the M9 and M cameras. This assertion is for how it's used by most photogs. Buy it today!

JohannB Posted August 31, 2014 Share #17 Posted August 31, 2014 In place of starting a new thread I'll post in this one as it is relevant. Leicatime hope you don't mind? In the search for a compact camera for my wife I found a brand new X1, which was only handled as a demo in the shop for $940. For that money I can buy a new Fujifilm x100s or pushing the budget a bit, a Fujifilm X-Pro1 + 18mm f2 R, but then not that compact anymore...... From all the reviews, technical specs and photo's I reviewed, it seems at this price point of $940 for a new camera, there is still no compact camera touching the X1 with regard to IQ in 2014. Am I missing something? Any suggestions at what new compact camera will have better photo quality at this price point? Johann
goatsby Posted August 31, 2014 Share #18 Posted August 31, 2014 The X1 is certainly worth consideration in 2014, here is a photo taken during my latest pub crawl at night , more of the set is here A night out | uninspired.me all with the X1. Shooting children and family events? Not the best option, but certainly good enough if you spend the time to figure it out . I went back to the X1 after going through a variety of other cameras, including the X100, RX100, and Ricoh GR and do not regret the decision.
MDCT Posted September 1, 2014 Share #19 Posted September 1, 2014 I use mine almost every day. So far I have shot about 10k frames with no problems. It is not a great choice for quick shooting unless you preset focus. It also is easy to bump a setting because the knobs move a little to freely. Other than that the pics from it really pop without having to do a bunch of pp. I have shot Fuji and others and arguably the image quality and feature set beats the x1. But there is just something about it that works for me. It reminds me of my film cameras.
