james.liam Posted October 7, 2016 Share #21  Posted October 7, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) But the SEM seems to be a hell of a lensProbably the finest 21 they've ever made and visibly superior by every metric compared to any Zeiss, CV or prior Leica M 21 I've ever used. Excepting speed, of course.  Just bought a 21 Elmarit asph and a used Zeiss viewfinder....Any comforting comments? You saved a few $€£¥ and can take a cool trip somewhere and use it? And I guess in blends in well concerning my other Leica lenses. And yes, it has already been used a whole lot... and it seem to stay unexpectidely much on my M9 ;-)  Regards,  Stein Kjetil

But if corner-to-corner sharpness and lack of color fringing is critical for you, the difference is immediately apparent. Very modern rendering, which of course, isn't to everyone's taste. The only modern 21 that really impressed but remains unusable on color digital sensors was the ZM 21 C. Shame they have not updated the optics to account for the color fringing issues in the corners. I again and no worries  And I can obviously live happily with any "fault" any Leica lens is supposed to have! And overall I like the Elmarit very much... even the ergonomics incl the clip-on hood. My only obsevation about the Elmarit is that in the senter and at 5,6 it is my "least crisp" lens... even compared with quite som old Mandler lenses (not in the sense that it is a faulty lens though...). From what I read the Elmarit 21 is a "so-so" lens while 24 seemingly the same optical base is described as a "magic design"...  PS: sorry for moving away from original thread...  Stein Kjetil
