Off Camera Flash for M

The Yongnuo RF-603N requires a hardware mod before it will work on the M240 (each receiver is capable of being a transmitter but only if the hot shoe tells it that it is a camera, the M240 won't do this).

I use an Xsource 16 channel wireless hot shoe flash trigger set. It came with 2 receivers and one transmitter for £18.54 from Amazon. The receiver has a hot shoe on top and a cold shoe plus 1/4 inch tripod thread hole underneath. As versatile as you want. Works on my M240, SF 58. Oh yes, manual mode only.

For an M, except for the Nikon SC28 or equivalent cable, and using the SF24 or SF58, none of the other methods will support TTL.

For an off camera electronic trigger, it will be manual only and a cheap electronic trigger like the Yongnuo (Nikon version) will work well for the occasional use. I bought mine off eBay and am very happy with it.

Thanks a million, but I am not worried about TTL, I am looking for HSS wireless.

I use an ancient Nikon SB-25 flash and a set of these Amazon.com : Phottix Ares Set Wireless Trigger (Black) : Photographic Lighting Slave Remote Triggers : Electronics for wireless off camera flash with my M240.

I don't have TTL flash, but I set the flash to "A" (auto) and this setup works pretty much perfectly. The Phottix Ares trigger set has a range of 600 feet and is under $50 USD. Given the ability of this setup, I can't see any reason to invest $630 USD in the SF-58 flash.

YMMV.

You will need the ability to use TTL to get HSS - the camera controls the flash as the shutter slit moves across the frame.

The other option is "hypersync" pretriggering a flash slightly and using a long T1 time to expose the image - i know the pocketwizard control TL units can do this, but i havent played with it at all

I hope I'm not spreading misinformation. There are several possibilities:

The rf-603 comes with Canon or Nikon hot shoes. I tried the Nikon one.

The rf-603 comes in two versions, original and rf-603 II. I tried the original.

I believe the M9 works and the M240 doesn't. I tried M240.

It's possible that both of my rf-603n are broken, neither will switch to transmit mode.

If you can confirm you use the same three variations (Nikon, original and m240) then I'll stop banging on about it. Thanks
