sharookh Posted August 5, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted August 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just wanted to know if anyone was experiencing banding on their LCD screens. I've been noticing this for a bit and earlier thought this was the LCD protective plastic film which I had left on. I've taken the film off and it appears more pronounced! My camera has just been purchased a month ago!! Â Anyone experiencing this??

sharookh Posted August 7, 2014 Author Share #4  Posted August 7, 2014 Obviously I appear to be the only one whose camera has this issue. Posting another image set at Auto brightness. It appear the banding follows the text on top and bottom, or focus icon. My images appear to be unaffected. Therefore an LCD issue only. How do I rectify this? Any ideas? Welcome, dear visitor! soundsgoodsg Posted August 7, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted August 7, 2014 wow. that's got to be a huge disappointment on a new camera. I had an LCD problem, too, but it was that the LCD would blink a lot, terrible for a camera that is built around the shooter interfacing with the touchscreen. It was under warranty but being a new product (purchased end of May, and Leica Singapore had no units to do a straight swap and weren't yet ready to handle complex T repairs locally), had to go all the way back to Germany for a repair. It took 2 months but came back 100% working, new LCD installed. I've only had it for a few days, and I would say it was worth it because of the joy I'm having shooting with it (I have only 50mm Summulix M lens, I really wanted to have the best of the traditional with manual focussing, together with what I think will become an iconic camera that re-defines how camera design will head in the future). Â But, the wait was agonizing - I was so frustrated waiting, came soooo close to buying a second hand A7 and an adaptor for the M lens and then sell it off after using it for 2 months (surely I wouldn't have lost that much on a second hand A7) and then even considered going with a A7S and just selling off the T when it came back - but for the cost involved and the warranty involved, bite the bullet and send it back via your reseller or directly via Leica. Â FYI, I didn't pay a cent for the repair, everything was covered under warranty.
Guest Posted August 7, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted August 7, 2014 Sounds like it may be defective. I would speak to the dealer where you purchased it about exchanging it - or contact Leica support directly. They seem to be replacing defective cameras (not repairing) here in the USA. Good luck! sharookh Posted August 7, 2014 Author Share #7 Â Posted August 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've written off to customer service - Wetzlar, today. I await their response. Don't know if it's a hardware or firmware issue. It came with 1.1installed. If it's a firmware re-install, it's really no problem. But if it's a hardware defect, well - when I buy a product made in Germany as advertised, I don't expect this to happen. Â So you're right - deeply disappointed.....!! soundsgoodsg Posted August 7, 2014 Share #8  Posted August 7, 2014 what's really odd is the UI elements look correct, the banding doesn't seem to affect the brightness scale, the top info line, etc. fingers crossed it is a firmware thing that can be solved without the camera leaving your hands.  The folks on this forum were super nice and empathetic to my disappointment on my first Leica camera, and they did post a load of suggestions to try to solve my problem, based on the hope that it might not be a hardware problem, which it was finally confirmed as being by the service center.  Have a look through the thread  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-t/334404-firmware-update-process.html  and you should be able to see the options that might help.  Looking back through the thread, I am a little embarrassed that I was so upset with the situation, it's a combination of no-one wants to buy a lemon, and then throw in the cost of the item and the fact that it's made in Germany, it's so annoying to have a problem. Not being able to get a one-for-one swap for something I hadn't had a day of fun with was definitely the thing that pushed me over the edge!
sharookh Posted August 7, 2014 Author Share #9 Â Posted August 7, 2014 I empathise with you and I agree the wait must have been agonising. However, I'm glad your back to shooting with the T. It is a lovely camera no doubt, but I'm disappointed that it was launched without all the boxes being ticked off. Â Now my wait for Leica to respond, begins........!! Lee Martin Posted August 7, 2014 Share #10 Â Posted August 7, 2014 I'd just take it back and get a replacement. It should be no qualms, no delay, no fuss and no disappointment. I can't imagine that Leica will commit without asking to see it first. Save yourself that problem, get a replacement and the store can send it back to Leica to look at then. BB W Posted August 10, 2014 Share #12 Â Posted August 10, 2014 I hope it's a speedy replacement for you! I'll tell you one thing for sure - while you were using the T you achieved some truly excellent photos, sharookh.

I'll tell you one thing for sure - while you were using the T you achieved some truly excellent photos, sharookh. Â Some good news - on informing the dealer of the LCD issue and Leicas mail, he replaced the entire camera, without my prompting. Â Ken Hansen, kudos, sir!!
