Just bought one and focus is very shallow, not sure if I am stopping down enough. Thanks Depth of field will be shallow(er) with any camera when focusing close. You should consider experimenting with aperture priority and take sets of images of the same subject at e.g. ISO 200 and ISO 400 … using every available aperture setting - with the camera on a tripod and letting the camera select the appropriate shutter speed. Then compare the results and decide which suit your needs/style. dunk
dkCambridgeshire Posted September 6, 2014 Share #23 Posted September 6, 2014 A well known UK d..d..dealer is currently listing three Leitz Macrotar VIb achromatic close-up lenses for just £15 each which are identical to the Leitz Elpro VIb … both are 4.92 diopter. These are bargains considering they are genuine Leitz achromats and with a bit of ingenuity their Series VI (44mm) threads can easily be adapted to fit both the 43mm XV filter thread and the Kiwi 49mm filter adaptor available for the X1 and X2. Just glue a suitable stepping ring onto the Series VI male thread e.g. use a 46mm interior to 43mm exterior step ring for the XV … apply tiny amounts of epoxy to the front of the step ring and the rear of the Macrotar where their surfaces touch … no need to apply the epoxy to the actual threads … thus possible to make a superb achromatic c/u lens at minimal cost … and stacking two Macrotars will result in a very high quality 9.84 diopter c/u lens. dunk

Leitz achromatic Macrotar lenses date from the mid 1960s; they are coated and are just as good as any modern achromatic c/u lens. This custom stepping ring cost approx. £30 but the home-made version described above would cost less than £5. Welcome, dear visitor!
