Advertisement Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Hi peterjcb, Take a look here Noctilux and Monochrom. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
steve70 Posted October 3, 2014 Share #62 Posted October 3, 2014 Gosh, I to have a Monochrom as well as am M240, but not a 50, f.95 I do have an old Nikkor 55mm f1.2 that I have used in the past with a canon 5D and the results were quite nice. I should use it on the M240 with an adapter since the M has the live view, it should make focusing easier. Or, should trade in one of my 2 Tri- Elmar 28-35-50's and gulp! splurge on the .95? algrove Posted October 4, 2014 Share #64 Posted October 4, 2014 If you think the Noctilux is good on the Monochrom then try the APO50. Now you need a chrome Noctilux for that chrome MM.
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted October 4, 2014 Share #65 Posted October 4, 2014 If you think the Noctilux is good on the Monochrom then try the APO50. Now you need a chrome Noctilux for that chrome MM. Algrove I was offered a 50 APO last week but unfortunately after buying the MM and 90 APO funds are low so will wait until December and treat myself for one at Christmas. I was using a 1950s Elmar on my MM when I first got the MM and the weight combination was fantastic, unfortunately the picture quality with the Elmar is nowhere near as good as it is with the Noctilux so I tend the have either the Noctilux or 21mm Lux screwed onto the MM, but especially with the Noctilux hanging off the front of the MM it doesn't hang nicely around MY neck and I tend to be always supporting the lens with my left hand. I am now starting to get into the camp of the Noctilux is not your everyday lens to run with as the weight of the bloody thing hanging off the front of the MM is aquared so I am guessing that the 50mm APO might be a better choice as some folks say that the picture quality is close to that of the Noctilux ..........I guess I will find out in December
algrove Posted October 6, 2014 Share #66 Posted October 6, 2014 Depends how you use it, but most often the APO50 beats the Nocilux in many categories starting with size and weight.
platypus Posted October 7, 2014 Share #67 Posted October 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Depends how you use it. algrove, Apologies for taking your above comment out of context...but I think it makes a very valid point. Neither the Noctilux, the APO50, the MM nor any other gear can be expected to work miracles of creativity. They won't provide the concept, the vision, the emotion, the instinct or whatever other intangibles go into making an image that resonates with those who view it. Certainly it's nice to have the very best gear....if only it were really that easy!
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted October 7, 2014 Share #68 Posted October 7, 2014 Dee I just finished lunch with a very good friend of mine that has just about everything Leica has made plus some and he also recommends the 50 APO over the Noctilux quote "the micro details of the APO works perfectly with the MM" and he also recommends getting rid of the Noctilux if I decide to get the APO as once I have used it.....size wise then I wouldn't want to go back
erl Posted October 7, 2014 Share #69 Posted October 7, 2014 Bad opinion. One does NOT replace the other, by any stretch of the imagination. Keep both, if you can afford it. The artistic merits are poles apart.
