Leica Lens Conversi0n: 6 Bit

I understand that when you buy a new Leica M lens (or is it a M8 body?) you get two coupons for 6 Bit upgrades.

 

How long does it take to get these coupons and when does this offer expire? Is it possible to ship the lenses off for the upgrade before receiving the coupons?

1. It's for lens purchases only. Early M8 adopters (payment before Jan. 1) were rewarded with an offer of a discounted new lens (already coded).

 

2. You must send in the lens's warranty registration card. The coupons come back with the Passport warranty card. It took about a month for mine, but I've heard Leica USA is getting backed up a bit, so it may be up to 6 weeks now. Outside the US I don't know what the timing is.

 

3. Offer was extended for lens purchases through June 30, 2007. However, the stated deadline on the coupons for redemption is ALSO June 30, which will make for a - hmm - narrow window for late purchasers. Presumably an inquiry to Leica Service will make allowances for tight turnarounds.

 

4. You DO need to send the coupons in with the lenses - but the coupons are good for ANY lens needing coding (that is in the group for which coding is available - see Leica website for list), not necessarily the actual lens purchased.

 

5. My first pair took just exactly a month, door to door. Older lenses, not current. I have two more coupons to use, and plan to use them up in mid-June.

I asked. They will accept the vouchers for lens coding through the end of 2007.
