- is what The Broken Spoke used to be, before Austin, TX, became one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. Thanks to the Spoke's popularity, it remains as was, including the dirt parking lots front and back and the signature huge live oak tree. If you don't look left or right. Sooner rather than later, I expect the Spoke will be sacrificed to the growth gods. Yes, we are upset at many of the changes. My son worked in the kitchen at the Spoke when he was in high school. We lived only blocks away in a nice, quiet residential neighborhood. The 'hood is still there, but vastly impacted by growth. Our family - and our son's - moved out to the suburbs many years ago. where it is still relatively restful to be.
