dennyg Posted July 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm rather new to Leica equipment, so I may have missed something obvious. I recently purchased a new M-240 and the Multifunction grip. Problem is that the GPS does not seem to be working. It is turned on in the camera menu, I had it outside for around an hour today so it had a clear sky view but the "X" never left the GPS symbol and the photos show no location in Lightroom. Any ideas on what the problem may be?

Navy Pier would be a good choice. Also make sure the knob that attached it is snug and the baseplate seated against the body.
Exodies Posted July 19, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 19, 2014 Is there a Chinatown area in Chicago?
dennyg Posted July 20, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted July 20, 2014 Well, I'm not really in Chicago, just the far burbs. And, yes, there is a Chinatown but I've never been there. Where I am, there is wide open space, nothing to disrupt the GPS signal. My iPhone gets good GPS even in my basement. But I was outside with the M and never got a lock indication. In fact, I have never seen a signal lock since I installed it. The cover is seated and tight, etc. Are there any other switches or controls besides the ON/OFF in the camera menu? I would remove and reattach the grip. Turn the camera back on and give it a go while walking around for a while. Short of that it may not be working and you may have to exchange it. Exodies Posted July 20, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 20, 2014 It may be the body which is faulty not the gps; try your grip on another body and try another grip on your body.
swamiji Posted July 20, 2014 Share #7 Posted July 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) What firmware are you using? There was a bug, that if the GPS was disabled for location reasons, it could take 24 hours to re-sync. That was reduced to 5 minutes in the current FW. But considering your location, I would test the HG as Exodies suggests.
dennyg Posted July 20, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted July 20, 2014 I'm using the latest firmware (15, I believe). Unfortunately, my only other Leica is an X-Vario, so I can't try it on another body. I guess I'll need to contact Leica and see what they advise.
Exodies Posted July 20, 2014 Share #9 Posted July 20, 2014 I feel I need to stress - it's either the body or the grip which is faulty. If your dealer isn't available to test both with other models, then you probably need to send both to Leica.

dennyg Posted August 8, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted August 8, 2014 As of this morning, I've tried everything and still no GPS. Then I got the bright idea to use the reset. After resetting the camera and re-entering my preferences, the GPS is now working well. Thought I'd post this in case anyone else is experiencing the same problem. jdlaing Posted August 9, 2014 Share #15 Posted August 9, 2014 Thanks did not know that was thinking getting the grip for extra hold and this feature Thx for info One other feature is you can use the USB cable to download the images rather than unfastening everything to get at the card. r7photo Posted August 9, 2014 Share #16 Posted August 9, 2014 Honesty probually would use USB feature but I could see use however, I'm used to removing base plate, if I got grip main feature would be for sturdiness holding cam as my silver chrome m could slip
