stephengilbert Posted May 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having obtained a screw thread adapter, and not having any white paint around, I thought I'd put the black mark on to indicate a WATE and see what the camera thought. With only the second "bit" marked in black and the others left unfinished brass (bronze?) the menu asked me to choose the 16, 18 or 21mm setting. It appears that only the black mark is necessary, at least for this lens option. Now if I just had a lens. Steve

Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 1, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 1, 2007 You can buy a 39mm leica filter that one is easy . B&H has that one and i think Tony does also.
AGeoJO Posted May 1, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 1, 2007 I know Tony at Popflash does because I just returned an unopened one since I ordered the wrong size. He will get it back tomorrow 05/02/07.

Steve RATS! I can't get my M8 to repeat your experience. But good to hear YOU CAN! I'm very certain the single black mark is in the right spot since a separate "9cm" adapter in use with my 28mm Ultron with its 28/2.8 nail polish spoofing code works just fine. (I simply patterned my new adapter after the successful locations encoded for my 28.) Try, try, try again, I guess. Maybe I'm not holding my mouth right or something... -g

With Popflash, call them up and talk to Tony. You ought to be able to convince him of your bona fides. He reads this forum from time to time. With B&H (and others) that won't ship to a hotel, find a company that you are working with at your port of call and a person at that company who will hold it for your arrival. The shipper simply wants to be clear of any liability for non-delivery when they send an expensive item, someone signs for it, and you don't finally receive it or claim not to have received it. If you make it your responsibility to get the item, they'll ship. scott
howard_cummer Posted May 2, 2007 Share #8 Posted May 2, 2007 I also have been experimenting with getting the M8 to read codes on non Leica lenses. Here is a picture of the coding on a Leica 35 Lux asph (on the left) and next to it is a CV Nokton 40 f1.4SC. You can vaguely see on the CV lens barrel where I have marked off where the code dots should be, including one over the screw head. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Howard+Cummer/UV+IR+Code+Pix/_1000064.JPG.html http://tinyurl.com/2rsmtw Here is the CV 40 now coded with matt black water soluble model paint - including a splash over the screw head which is in the way. The M8 manages to read the code as 35mm!! http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Howard+Cummer/UV+IR+Code+Pix/_1000072.JPG.html http://tinyurl.com/32t4x6 Here is a picture off our balcony with lens code on, IR filter off and no filter on the camera: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Howard+Cummer/UV+IR+Code+Pix/L9991044.JPG.html http://tinyurl.com/25l4gs And finally, here is a picture of the same scene with lens code on, IR filter recognition on and the filter (a 43mm heliopan 8025) on: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Howard+Cummer/UV+IR+Code+Pix/L9991045.JPG.html http://tinyurl.com/yqc9za The posted pictures are from the basic Jpegs - I haven't yet fooled around with the RAW files. I will wait for night fall to see what happens under tungsten light but I am pretty pleased with myself, Cheers Howard
