pilot-kurt Posted July 6, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted July 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Â I'm coming from my Leica Digilux 2 which I've used for the past ten years (and really liked). I'm an amateur photographer who enjoys the hobby. I got my black T yesterday along with a 23mm T lens and Visoflex (I live near Seattle). My overall impression is very positive, but I wanted to share some concerns: Â 1. The strap hinges are squeaky. I'm trying to decide what kind of lubricant to use. Also, I thought the new design would keep the strap from twisting, but sometimes I have to turn it around the post by hand several times to get it flat around my neck. A second swivel point on the hinge would be better. Â 2. The GPS is painfully slow to acquire a signal when first turned on (about a minute or more). It's better when waking from standby (a few seconds), but still noticeable. It doesn't work at all indoors. My iPhone is vastly better. Â 3. It's difficult to remove the SD card because the plastic door is so close to it. I have to find the little indentation on the SD card and use my fingernail to pull it out. I wish I could just use my fingers. Â 4. There needs to be an option to turn off the Auto Review. I have it set to 1 sec, but it's very annoying when using the Visoflex. I just want to shoot photos and review them later. Â 5. The combination of Visoflex and lens hood makes it pretty bulky for my shoulder bag (not exactly "compact"). Yes, I can remove the lens hood for storage, but then it's not ready to go in an instant. I like to keep the lens hood on at all times to protect the lens, but this one is really huge. Although I wish it had a built-in EVF, I do like the ability to tilt the Visoflex. It allows me to hold the camera very steady without having to shrug my shoulders up. Â 6. My biggest concern, by far, is an intermittent problem of either the touch screen and/or thumb dials not responding to any input. Imagine spinning the wheels or tapping on the screen and nothing happens! Once I turn the camera off and back on, it goes away. This is very disconcerting. The camera came with the latest firmware v1.1. Perhaps the firmware is still buggy, but I'm not certain if the camera needs to be returned. Â Again, there are many wonderful things about the camera I have not mentioned. I'm not trying to be too negative here, but these impressions have me wondering about the money I spent. colonel Posted July 6, 2014 Share #2  Posted July 6, 2014 Hi all, I'm coming from my Leica Digilux 2 which I've used for the past ten years (and really liked). I'm an amateur photographer who enjoys the hobby. I got my black T yesterday along with a 23mm T lens and Visoflex (I live near Seattle). My overall impression is very positive, but I wanted to share some concerns:  1. The strap hinges are squeaky. I'm trying to decide what kind of lubricant to use. Also, I thought the new design would keep the strap from twisting, but sometimes I have to turn it around the post by hand several times to get it flat around my neck. A second swivel point on the hinge would be better.  2. The GPS is painfully slow to acquire a signal when first turned on (about a minute or more). It's better when waking from standby (a few seconds), but still noticeable. It doesn't work at all indoors. My iPhone is vastly better.  Yes, like most gps it needs power otherwise position resets. .Your iphone also uses the cell network which is why it's quicker.   3. It's difficult to remove the SD card because the plastic door is so close to it. I have to find the little indentation on the SD card and use my fingernail to pull it out. I wish I could just use my fingers.  I can grab both sides. A problem with my RX1 and other cameras as well  4. There needs to be an option to turn off the Auto Review. I have it set to 1 sec, but it's very annoying when using the Visoflex. I just want to shoot photos and review them later.  I agree. A later software fix. Also I would like to switch between evf only, screen only and auto change. I suspect a new software icon would solve  5. Try the evf on the RX100 . I use it without the EVF unless the sunlight is very strong or I am shooting in very low light  6. I don't have this issue. Have you taken the film off the lcd that came with the camera ? I have and have put on a screen protector made for touch screens  Again, there are many wonderful things about the camera I have not mentioned. I'm not trying to be too negative here, but these impressions have me wondering about the money I spent.  Rgds
mhobi Posted July 6, 2014 Share #3  Posted July 6, 2014 Hi  I also had the problem that the dials were sometimes not working after switching on the camera. My Leica T came also with firmware 1.1 installed. I did a reset and since then the problem seems to have disappeared and I hope it's not coming back. For me it looks like a bug in the firmware and not a mechanical problem and I hope this gets fixed with a new firmware update.  Regards, Michael
pilot-kurt Posted July 6, 2014 Author Share #4  Posted July 6, 2014 Michael, how did you reset your camera? stuny Posted July 7, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted July 7, 2014 I wonder if the T works like so many other digital cameras regarding the auto-review: Half press the shutter button and review instantaneously cancels, returning you to shooitng mode.
vikasmg Posted July 8, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted July 8, 2014 Almost all of these points are problems I've noted but never mentioned because I thought they were minor issues. However looking at your post I realise it is quite a list and thank you for mentioning the niggles! Yes, those hinges do squeak! Twirling the strap to straighten it is a frequent annoyance too. Also agree with you about the proximity of the SD card slot to the door, the slow GPS and the need to turn off Auto Review. As for the hoods, I finally put them away and had forgotten they exist! Â Your biggest concern though I have not really experienced... Â But as you say, a wonderful camera!
barjohn Posted July 8, 2014 Share #7  Posted July 8, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) A ½ press will stop the review and use the zoom review setting as it is shorter in duration.

pilot-kurt Posted July 11, 2014 Author Share #9 Â Posted July 11, 2014 Thank you all for your comments. I removed the battery, then reset my camera. I haven't had any more problems with the dials, but twice more (a total of four times), the touch screen locked up. I was unable to activate the icons in the right toolbar or swipe the main screen to switch between camera and playback. So you know, I did not disable the right tool bar because the icons were not dimmed. The only way to regain control was to turn the camera off, then back on. Perhaps it is a firmware issue. I took a video on my iPhone to prove it. Â I became frustrated, so I went to the camera store to check out the competition, thinking I might jump ship: Fuji X100S, Fuji X-T1, Sony A7 series, Olympus OM-D E-M1, etc. After using the T, the difference in quality and ease-of-use was night and day (and of course, price too). Although the other cameras had somewhat faster auto-focus, better EVF, and/or shorter lag time, the difference was not terrible. The T is a wonderful camera! Â I spoke with Leica Technical Support and they were not aware of similar problems. My dealer has generously offered to swap out my camera as soon as he gets a new black T shipment. Â Here is an update on the strap hinge noise: I went to Home Depot and purchased Blaster Dry Lube (made with PTFE). I used the straw to spray it into the cracks. It does not contain silicone and is supposedly safe on plastics. What a difference. Totally silent now. Â Gradually coming to peace with the minor niggles... Â There seems to be small % with dial issues and screen lock-ups ...... mine has been replaced and the difference was instantly noticeable and all the dial glitches, poor responsiveness and screen-locks have gone. The puzzling thing was the sporadic and inconsistent nature of the problem..... Â I've used some watch oil and grease on the squeaks and they have gone for good too......
