LocalHero1953 Posted July 1, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I want to use an IR-cut filter with my Hektor 7.3cm (to use with my M240 in portraiture). The filter size is listed on this site as A42 - is that a thread size or were filters push fit? I ask because the internal filter thread actually measures more like 39mm than 42mm. Were there ever / are there any A42 IR-cut filters? If not, are there step-up adapters that go from A42 to, say, E55 (because I have an E55 IR filter), or to any other modern filter size? I'd appreciate any advice!

luigi bertolotti Posted July 1, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2014 A42 identifies a "push-on" flter, not a "screw in" (which would be an E xx) , to say, s filter the kind of the ones for Elmar 5cm (A 36 in its case); not easy to source by sure... even if the venerable Hektor was designed FOR filters (the Agfacolor filters)
luigi bertolotti Posted July 1, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2014 I have just checked my Hektor 7,3 (which i used, not so frequently, always filterless ) : its inner front thread seems to accept rather well a standard E39 filter... not so a clean mounting... but its thread is probably "virgin"... I screwed on my E39 modern UVIR filter : it definitelys stays on, and even allows to mount the original hood.
LocalHero1953 Posted July 2, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted July 2, 2014 That sounds an ideal option. I'll give it a try. Thanks a lot, Luigi!
LocalHero1953 Posted July 11, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted July 11, 2014 I found a Leica E39 IR/UV cut filter, and it fits perfectly. A great solution and thanks for the advice. The downside is that the 2-piece hood is no longer usable as a lens cap. The hood fits OK in reversed position, but the separate cap doesn't: the filter OD is less than the lens ring OD, and the cap isn't deep enough to reach the lens ring. A minor problem.
