Shot directly into the sun underexposed by 0.7 EV; Helipoan 2-stop ND filter; contrast and sharpness tweaked post.

Don't appreciate the infamous flare. This is a recent copy, manufacture date Spring 2016.

"My lens is the new version. I didn't formulate this correctly though. I didn't mean that the top of the frame is covered by the hood, but that the lens hood partially covered the light that hit the top of the lens casting a narrow band across the top of the frame, but not enough to cover all the light that hit the lens. "

That's not the hood at all.

Scary.

As an aside, these downsized JPEGs really do no justice to this lens. This is my first run around with the APO on a MM v.1; looking at the originals on a good monitor, it becomes painfully evident how high the resolution is, noticeably more so than the 50 Summilux I once owned, that subjects shot at ƒ/2 appear 'etched out' of the surroundings. The effect is so astounding wide-open and with subtle tonality, that I found little point stopping down so I slapped on an ND filter and left it there.

Stopping down has its obvious uses. Depth of field is invaluable.
