SVX90 Posted June 10, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 10, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I am not sure if this has been mentioned before or not, but a screen capture feature would be nice in the new firmware. Don't you guys think?
Advertisement Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Hi SVX90, Take a look here Screen Capture. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JohnJWhite Posted June 10, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 10, 2014 Screen capture? What would that do?
pieterpronk Posted June 10, 2014 Share #3 Posted June 10, 2014 In my opinion we need less features, not more.
jaapv Posted June 10, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2014 What screen should be captured? As far as I'm aware the LCD image gets captured by the sensor.
pop Posted June 10, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 10, 2014 I can see why some members might wish for a screen capture; they could document some settings or take snapshots of the display with all the instrumentation shown either before shooting or when viewing the picture: histograms, over-/underexposed areas and so forth. The use could be twofold: on one hand, a user seeking assistance could show how his camera is set; on the other hand, someone wishing to instruct another user or to assemble some sort of instruction booklet could easily document various situations. Not that I think screen captures very important for my own use, but I can imagine why someone might.
jaapv Posted June 10, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2014 Just use your iPhone to snap the screen.
pop Posted June 10, 2014 Share #7 Posted June 10, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) That's what I would do; however, that's an order of magnitude more cumbersome and quite a bit slower than just pressing one or two buttons on the camera. Also, the quality of the resulting screen capture could be noticeably poorer. Good enough for my own purposes, I suppose (should the need ever arise) but perhaps not for the TO. pico Posted June 10, 2014 Share #8 Posted June 10, 2014 One thing I suggested long ago was a memory dump to serialized text files stored on the SD card upon startup and shutdown. It would include all the menu values, battery state, plus CPU state. It would be useful for sending to Leica or sharing when there are issues or questions. epand56 Posted June 11, 2014 Share #9 Posted June 11, 2014 Silly thread. Anyway, what I really miss in my M is I can't browse facebook, can't send messages to my friends, can't download video games and Apps and can't read ebooks. Luckily I have my Mac. pop Posted June 13, 2014 Share #10 Posted June 13, 2014 Silly thread. What in particular strikes you as silly in this thread? That someone wants to do something with his camera that did not occur to you or that you see no use for? That he posts his question in a forum dedicated to discussions about his camera? That people try to suggest solutions to his problem even if they do not understand the need for those solutions? All the things you mention you can already do, even if only with a product which many here feel may be a bit inferior to the M in many respects, but the function the opener of this thread is looking for can not be properly done with today's implementation of the M, with or without any clumsy external devices. So what is your suggestion the thread opener is to do?
timde Posted June 13, 2014 Share #11 Posted June 13, 2014 I would be happier if the get rid of the screen altogether! Configure and review via WiFi connected device ... or what might be interesting is a way to save and read settings from a file on the SD Card. But a screen grab ... just use a phone camera IMHO. mjh Posted June 13, 2014 Share #12 Posted June 13, 2014 Of course a screen capture feature would be useful at times – there were many occasions I could have made good use of it, but then writing about cameras is my job. Still it is unlikely to get implemented. Camera vendors could use it to create illustrations for the camera manual but as a rule, these illustrations are high-resolution vector graphics, not actual screenshots. Sounds like you're quite a fan of inelegant and clumsy solutions. I don't feel the need for a screen grab. But I can see why someone else might.
