I have been using very similar setup for my Hasselblad kit for last 2 years and I would agree that soft foam has its own disadvantages. For example I have to vacuum the case few times a year to make sure that small pieces of the foam wont go inside the equipment (I'm sure it will at some point) less or more same as other cases and bags. For sure the ideal spacing is about two to three squares/rows between each lens and body since foam structure changes its shape after using it for a while.
