pragmatist Posted May 30, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have had 2 M9's in the past and regretfully sold them however there is just something about Leica that keeps bringing me back. Yes there are much better out there. The Canon 5D mk3 boys can rightfully say mine is better than yours but then again the Hassy boys can turn up and say actually Canon guy…… I think it all comes down to how the tool you use to take photos makes you feel and i have had most makes of camera but nothing makes me feel the way a Leica does. The feel and the simplistic control layout. Yes the company can be frustrating sometimes with slow turnarounds and sometimes less than acceptable quality control but in general they are amazing tools. All i know is that despite its shortcomings the damn thing takes stunning photos.

But when it comes to a street shooting all day and night I like Leica or a Fuji XE1. (And first choice is the Leica. )
mca Posted June 13, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 13, 2014 And I thought I was indecisive after having gone from 5D2 -> M9 -> 5D2 -> M9 From my personal experience I have learned the following regarding cameras: - never buy something you can't afford or it will make you feel guilty everyday when you need money for important things and you realize you have put it on an expensive camera without actually needing it; - if you can afford it, buy the camera that makes you photograph without thinking about it, like an extension of your arm and mind instead of a complex tool; - try to get a camera that makes you feel the images in a more profound way, be it because you like the final result you get or because you get more attached to the images you make when using this or that camera; - finally, stop worrying about the tool and start worrying about what you're going to photograph next and how that fits your style, your message, your art; think about photographic projects and what you want to show the world besides your shiny camera. this would be my personal advice. if Leica is the camera that meets these, then so be it. erl Posted June 14, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 14, 2014 Those practitioners that say things like " mine is better than yours" etc always miss the salient point. Better for what? So many factors need to be considered when selecting any camera/tool for the job. Not in order, but concurrently: cost compactness ease of use conspicuousness portability image quality compatibility with other gear etc. (add your own features here) Only 'you' can make those decisions, so remember it is your money, so think carefully before committing. No single camera is 'best' for everything.
250swb Posted June 14, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 14, 2014 The Canon 5D mk3 boys can rightfully say mine is better than yours And there will still be somebody using the old Mk1 model making better pictures. Steve
Zael Posted June 15, 2014 Share #7 Posted June 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, new to the forum - and Leica! I primarily shoot with a 5D3. It's a great camera and I've taken a lot of images with it that I am quite proud of: safe for work ZAEL : Photo not safe for work ZAEL : Photo However, I bought a Monochrom last week and I have been having the time of my life using it! Don't get me wrong - I love the 5D3 - but my DSLR kit is big, heavy and draws attention to itself. The Monochrom is the exact opposite and is frankly a lot of fun to shoot with. I've always loved the contrast-y look that Leica lenses render. I'm really loving the images I'm getting from the Monochrom.
