I'm trying to search the forum but cannot find it.......

I just got the Vario Elmar R 3.5 /35-70 E67, made in Germany as indicated on the lens, to be used for my M (type 240) using Novoflex adaptor and Leica EVF-2. The nearest I can find on the datebase of M is the F4 35-70. Is there anyway I can update the database so I can use specific lens or do I need to code this lens so it can be automatically read by the M or....I don't know what to do.:)....appreciate your help...TIA.

No there is no way to do that. The database only holds the lenses that Leica deems to be the most popular ones. As there are no lens corrections applied it does not really matter.

Meaning, there is no way I can see framelines if I'm using 35-50 or 70?

As far as I know, there are never any framelines shown in the evf or lv. It's rather a dslr like vysiwyg experience.. tou're looking through the actual lens. And since the coding doesn't do any corrections, all you get is correct exif info.

So not having a code isn't really a big deal at all.

And the rf just shows what it shows. But you wouldn't use that with adapted lenses anyway, since there's no way of focusing with it.

The EVF has no framelines and the R lenses have no frameline linkage. The R lens list is only meant to bring the lens name into EXIF. There is no way to bring up framelines other than mechanically by an M mount lens obviously.

And as Juha says, you cannot focus an R lens with the rangefinder anyway.

Now, I do understand, thanks for the replies.

Just tried today the combo walking along River Thames, very hard to focus using the EVF unlike M lens it's like a breeze.....the only benefit of having a zoom lens is no need to change the lens if you need wide and/or zoom....

Now, I am thinking if the Vario-Elmar R zoom lens, EVF-2, Novoflex adaptor I just bought is worth it....:(
