Keep in mind that Thorsten prefers LR 3 to LR5, last I read, and he uses only a fraction of LR's controls and capabilities. This suits his needs and preferences, which of course is what counts. My approach, though, is much different, preferring LR 5 by a considerable margin, with use of many functions depending on a given photo. I don't mind individualizing my processing approach for a given photo, while Thorsten prefers a fairly consistent, quick and simple methodology. Different strokes. sanyasi Posted May 29, 2014 Share #6 Posted May 29, 2014 I would go with Marin Evenings' book on LR 5 rather than Kelby's. Evening is straightforward and to the point. I haven't seen Kelby's LR 5 book, but his other books have a little too much humor and chatter for my taste. Evening is a real pro. I also would consider getting the Kindle version or other e-book version. I have found having all of my photography instructional books on my iPad to be very helpful. Jeff S Posted May 29, 2014 Share #7 Posted May 29, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the Kelby and Evening books, but given the reader's apparent level of understanding, I think he'll do better with the Kelby book first and, as I already pointed out, just ignore the bad humor (mostly on the first page of each chapter that can be skipped without harm).
