yesterday i checked at my dealer the Leica M bag Billingham produces. HOW will your get more than a M8 and 2 lenses in this bag ????

 

If i have a Summilux 50mm at my M8 + a 24mm in the bag, there es no space for the Macro Elmar with googles. Most useres tell that they can stow at least 3 lenses and a M in these bag.

You can buy what they call AVEA pockets. No.3 is the one of the correct size to fit the Billingham M Combo bag. I have one fitted but you can fit two. It is big enough to take my quite large Zenitar 16mm fish-eye on an M42 to Leica M adaptor or an Elmar-M 90mm f2.8 easily. The advantage is that if you only want to take three lenses (one on the body plus two extra), you can leave the AVEA pocket at home. It fits onto the strap guide at the side of the bag, with two leather straps and heavy metal pop studs. If you do a search on the forum, you should find a picture I posted for someone else who wanted to see what it looked like.

You keep one lens attached to M and 2 independent lenses. You arrange the divider flaps in the storage area to offer two "cubic" storage spaces at each extremity inside bag, with one of those divider flaps acting as top flap over each of the "cubes".

 

You store 1 lens in each "cube", close both "cubes" with their respective top flap, store M + lens horizontally so that it lies on top of each of those flaps, with lens pointing down in the chimney between the cubes. Close the top horizontal flap over the camera, close the bag. There you are with M8+3 lenses neatly stored, and easily accessible.

 

The trick is really to arrange properly the 2 cubes so that they do not end up too high (which would not give enough space to close flap and bag over camera) or too wide (which could block the shade of the attached lens pointing down). Once they are arranged they do not move anymore, so the whole process is only a one off headache.

The well that is created for the camera and lens using the above method is also deep enough to store a 4th smaller lens. I have the 90mm summicron, 50mm noctilux, 24mm elmarit, and 50mm cron all in the bag. The 50 cron is small and fits perfectly. A small piece of padding from a previous bag fits over the top to protect it, and the camera with the 24mm installed fits easily over the top of it. The 90 and 50 noctilux are in the side pocket wells. The flash and lots of accessories fit nicely in the front zippered pocket.

Doh! I had not thought of that. My little collapsible Elmar 50 would easily fit under the M8 unless I had the Elmar 90 on it. I have a carrier bag full of dividers that I could use for padding.

Are you talking about the 'Alice' Billingham? If so, I habitually fit my full complement of 6 lenses (incl. 15mm CV; 24/2.8; 28/2.8; 35/2; 50/1.0; 50/2.0; 90/2) + M8 & RD1 - + Metz Flash if required (rarely). It simply takes a bit of 'divider' organizing. You DO have to experiment to get it to work.

I think most of us were discussing the smaller Combo M bag, sold only by Leica and not from general Billingham outlets. Quite a bit smaller than the Alice. See image below.

I bought this bag in the 1980s – I think it was a 104 or something. Never really saw them much after that. Will take a camera with lens and perhaps another lens and a few bits.

 

Also have a similary aged 335 for my dSLR
