likalar Posted May 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) M9, 50mm Summicron Maybe it's not fair to criticize a lady in dry dock, but where was the naval architect when this ship was conceived? I imagine the graffiti-style graphics were meant to help, but this vessel is no jewel, IMO. Facts: 1,100 crew, 93,000 gross tonnage, 965 ft (294 m). Thanks for having a look. Bateleur Posted May 21, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 21, 2014 Interesting images, I saw the ship on her maiden voyage, and wondered about the graffiti too! Regards Charles
pauledell Posted May 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 21, 2014 Larry, A great pair. They sure look different than the stately ships built many years ago. Personally, I've never had much of a desire to take a cruise. The only cruise ship I've been on is the Queen Mary back when it was docked at Long Beach. Built in Germany and baptised by Melania Trump. Registered in the Bahamas, owned by an American company with the name of Norwegian Cruise Lines, but has probably never been to Norway. I also strongly doubt if they serve Geitost or Lutefisk onboard Best, HP

Paul I do have to say one of the highlights of my life was the voyage from NYC to Southampton in January of 1960 on the Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mary's sister ship. Fantastic experience, fantastic ship. They were passenger liners, not cruise ships. Travel in the grand tradition. An ocean cruise though, on one of the mega-ships, holds no appeal for me at all.
