dan_drabek Posted April 28, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Took the canoe out for the first time this season. I find that if I spot the animal, give a quick paddle and hold motionless as the canoe drifts up to the target, I can get pretty close. The critters don't seem to fear the slow moving canoe. All shots D1 1. I heard frogs all day long, but only located one.Through TeleVue Ranger Spotting scope. 2. A mother mallard and her brood let me get very close. 3. A dense school of minnows, right under the canoe.

stuny Posted April 28, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 28, 2007 DD - Superb catches, framing, details, light and color. Clearly an excellent strategy for success. We've tried similar canoe approaches in Belize and PNG, but you've done better.

dan_drabek Posted April 29, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted April 29, 2007 Thanks for the comments guys. John, being in a canoe is much like being part of the landscape. And the animals seem to know that your mobility is very limited. The great thing is that it puts you right down near the water's surface. I've found that it is very practical to set-up a low tripod in the canoe and get the camera even closer to water level. Jan, I hope you get your spring thaw soon.
