Bakelite case

Hi all.

I got a black Hektor 135mm with bakelite case, exactly the same in the photo (lens from 1947). My question is about the bakelite case. First time I see one.

Was these bakelites cases usual at 30s and 40s? Did they get specific codes?

Tks!

Martin

Yes, they are normal for prewar/early postwar items... I have for 9cm, for 2,8/3,5cm (same), for 13,5 as yours... they were followed by the transparent plasic containers (much finer) ;most of them are black, both some do exist also in a brown color, very "stylish" (*).

I am not sure they had a proper code... maybe they were normally provided with the lenses... the "special" lens cases (leather) are coded as accessories (ETBIX, ETBUL...) ... but I never found a 5 letter code for bakelite cases (the transparent later ones do have codes like POLWO, POLXO... and also BOOSK BOORW...)

(*) here is the one for Hektor 2,8

Thanks, Luigi!

I suspect they weren't furnished with the lens... So rare here to be a standard, like the transparent plastic case. My grandfather bought a lot of Leica gear from 30s to 60s - and there's several leather cases and the transparent, but no bakelite.

PS: really fine piece your case! :D

Heep... :o to be sincere, isn't my one ... (I attached a pic that took time ago somewhere on the Net... mine is normal black.... but the one for 2,8/3,5cm is a bit more refined than others, having inside a receptacle to accomodate the focusing knob, so that the lens is well firm into the case, which isn't for the long lenses...)
