Dual monitor for postprocessing question.

After reading several posts on the best monitor for post processing and general editing,we bought an Eizo CX240 which we connect to a Sony AW vaio laptop (which has a Vista OS).

 

We used to calibrate/profile the Sony with Spyder Elite but that clashes with the ColorNavigator calibration software which came with the Eizo (and which we would like to use to get the best out of the Eizo.)

 

We took Eizo's advice and we have uninstalled the Spyder 3 software from the Sony laptop, and we just calibrate the Eizo monitor with ColorNavigator using the Spyder measurement device.

 

All seems to be working very well.

 

However,just one query. The Eizo calibrates using its own hardware. Do we need to go into the Colour Management Tool in the Control Panel of the Sony laptop and set the colour profile of the Eizo as the default profile for the Eizo? Does this matter?

 

When we do go into the Colour Management Tool,we notice that, whilst two displays are identified,they are both called 'Generic PnP Monitor - NVIDIA GeForce 9600 M GT'.

 

Not sure which one the graphics card in the Sony laptop is identifying as the Eizo ,and which one is the laptop. We thought it would identify the Eizo by name and the laptop as the Sony display.

 

Does this matter if the Eizo uses hardware calibration and profiling?

Your question is too technical for me. It likely require some knowledge of drivers, etc.

 

Having said that, I have two Eizo monitors and I have never set a default profile in the Mac's system preferences. That seems to happen automatically/ When I go to System Preferences-Display, each profile is listed. Moreover, the system associates the correct profile with the each monitor. Things print great.

 

If things are working as you like, I would live with the uncertainty. If that bothers you, check back with Eizo again. They should be able to answer such a specific question.

 

I would appreciate it if you posted there response, particularly if you are supposed to be setting setting preferences, although in my case, Eizo appears to have set them.

One of the problems may be that Vista is not the most brilliant of operating systems. I would advise that you upgrade to a Windows 7 computer, if not to Mac. That will solve many of this type of issues.

Having said that,it is essential to turn off any computer-driven profiling of the monitor that is going to be individually calibrated in hardware, even before you start the calibration procedure. And leave it turned off.
