ironringer Posted May 1, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can IIIf users who use an electronic flash (preferably small size, dating from the 1990-2010 period) tell me what flash they use, with what Leica flash sync cord? Modern flashes after the 1970s typically used a "hot shoe" connection, and most had no input jack for a flash cord. I believe the Vivitar 283 flash has an input jack for a flash cord, but that is a very large and heavy flash unit to stick on top of a small IIIf. I will appreciate IIIf users' recommendations for small flashes, and what Leica flash synch cord I must look for, that fits with these flash units. Or another option - perhaps some small flashes came with a flash cord that fits in a IIIf socket?

giordano Posted May 2, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 2, 2014 The sync sockets on -f and -g series cameras accept traditional "PC" connectors as well as the (more secure and less obtrusive) Leica ones. Likewise the simple sync circuit isn't affected by moderately high voltages (with slight modification these cameras could handle even the 1,000V trigger circuits of some early electronic flash units). So basically you can use any flashgun you come across that takes a standard sync cable. There are lots of old ones around second hand. New, I'm not so sure, although I believe that non-dedicated Mecablitz units such as the 20 C-2 and 36 C-2 still come with cables.

carlos.paula Posted May 12, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 12, 2014 In my IIIf Red Dial I use my Nikon SB-600 with a common sync cable. The only correct synchronism I obtained using speed of 1/25 sec and the synchrodial adjusted in (zero).
