Advertisement Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Hi Guest guy_mancuso, Take a look here C1 3.77 New Profile for M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sean_reid Posted April 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2007 Hi Guy, I haven't had a chance to test it yet but I noticed that there's also an M8+486 profile there as well. That was a nice surprise. Cheers, Sean
scott kirkpatrick Posted April 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2007 Hi Guy, I haven't had a chance to test it yet but I noticed that there's also an M8+486 profile there as well. That was a nice surprise. Cheers, Sean I've tried it on just a few shots, and found it very different from the Leica filter profile, strongly flattening the blues and reducing contrast. It may be an earlier version that was abandoned once the real leica filters became available. See what you think. scott

sdai Posted April 27, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 27, 2007 I haven't got any filters right now but this looks very nice, Guy ... no reddish skintone as some others have reported here. This seems to be very neutral/natural to my eyes ...
hankg Posted April 27, 2007 Share #7 Posted April 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here are the results from the old M8 generic (3.76) the new M8 generic UV/IR (3.77) as well as the latest from David Farkas and Edmund Ronald (processed in 3.77). I have been using the C1 M8 generic profiles as it still gives me the best all round results. The best highlight detail with no problems in tone or color transitions (there are problems with both in the custom profiles). The new C1 UV/IR profile seems to restore some pop into the visual red spectrum that the IR filter seems to be affecting. Better balance between saturated blues, reds and greens (see macbeth chart). Flesh tones are very nice. Really excellent result. I ran all the profiles in 3.76 and 3.77 with pretty much the same results. It would seem that creating a profile is extremely difficult and beyond the abilities of off the shelf profiling software. Maybe that's why Knoll abandoned the whole ICC profiling model in Lightroom. I was hoping that C1 would be able to generate custom profiles at some point since it's ICC compliant but I don't think I could do better then Edmund or David on profiling so I'm thinking that there may not be as much value in that as I thought. I just hope Phase One continues to support the M8. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! wattsy Posted April 27, 2007 Share #8 Posted April 27, 2007 I haven't had a chance to test it yet but I noticed that there's also an M8+486 profile there as well. That was a nice surprise. I could only find the M8 UV/IR profile, I can't see one for M8+486. This is with both C1 Pro 3.77 and the LE version. Presumably I'm missing something obvious? dfarkas Posted April 27, 2007 Share #9 Posted April 27, 2007 Skin tone rendering is off now with my profile. I guess I'll be running a new profile again today using v3.7.7. David
hankg Posted April 27, 2007 Share #10 Posted April 27, 2007 Note, on my laptop the differences between the 4 profiles is not dramatic but on the calibrated CRT on my Mac desktop the differences are huge.
psquared Posted April 27, 2007 Share #11 Posted April 27, 2007 Note, on my laptop the differences between the 4 profiles is not dramatic but on the calibrated CRT on my Mac desktop the differences are huge. Thanks for running the comparison, Hank. I believe the picture was taken with FW 1.092. Do we know if there were any changes to the color matrix from 1.092 to 1.102? Also, are there any in-camera color adjustments for filter on vs filter off other that would also affect lenses longer than 35mm?

Presumably I'm missing something obvious? Ian, after I installed the upgrade, they both appeared in the Color Management Setting list in the Camera Profile dropdown. The first is called Leica M8 Generic UV-IR. Following that one I have Leica M8 IR-
scott kirkpatrick Posted April 27, 2007 Share #13 Posted April 27, 2007 Here are two shots, two versions each, shot with a B&W 486 filter. Each was whitebalanced and developed pretty much with all default settings. The only change between the first and second of each is that the first is developed with the Leica filter profile and the second with the 486 profile. The first shot (April 2) was shot with firmware 1.092 and bounce flash and the second (today) with 1.102 in indirect daylight, but the characteristic differences are the same. My impression is that the Leica filter profile is a good starting point, and that there is something wrong with the 486 profile. The choice of profile does not affect the white balance. scott Welcome, dear visitor! Will have to run a new image through with shot with 1.102.
wparsonsgisnet Posted April 27, 2007 Share #15 Posted April 27, 2007 I'm with Scott. I looked at some recent 1.1 portraits and prefer Edmund's profiles to the new 486 ones from C1, in 377. In fact, I prefer the new, beta 1.102 profiles from Edmund to both the C1 profiles, both the generic UV-IR and the 486. The generic has much darker values in the lower zones, and the 486, while lighter, is reddish.
scott kirkpatrick Posted April 27, 2007 Share #16 Posted April 27, 2007 Firmware with which the picture was shot doesn't seem to matter (see my post just above). I don't think there were further changes in the color transform (which ACR sees, but not C1). scott

wattsy Posted April 27, 2007 Share #18 Posted April 27, 2007 Ian, after I installed the upgrade, they both appeared in the Color Management Setting list in the Camera Profile dropdown. Bill, this is where I have been looking. I only have the original generic M8 and the new M8 UV/IR profiles. I'm using the Mac version of C1 - is this possibly a Windows v. Mac difference?
