35mmSummicron Posted April 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) now that fw 1.102 is out it enables us the option of selecting lens detection with UV/IR filter corrections. C1 3.7.7 is out which comes with a new Leica generic profile for UV/IR corrected colour, it would be great to have the M8 to embed into each shot via EXIF if you have your filter on or not as a reference so you know which profile to use (or even for the software to automatically select it). not 100% sure which field that type of info should go in to be most effective/compatible with other raw converters though.... thoughts? /a
Advertisement Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Hi 35mmSummicron, Take a look here Future firmware feature request. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted April 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2007 This would have to go into the proprietary MakerNotes, as there is no existing field in the EXIF standard that fits; raw converters would need to be updated to take this into account. The correction applied by the firmware is to be preferred, though; raw converters can be kept blissfully ignorant of this.
scott kirkpatrick Posted April 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2007 Remember that the camera only knows there is a filter on if you tell it and it recognizes a coded lens. Then it can be written into the EXIF. But it is not likely that a third party raw file management or development package would extract that information, as Leica is not likely to disclose it and reserves the right to change it in the future. However, it is only a matter of time before someone takes the time to do some experiments and discover how to read this sort of stuff for your own information, and for better understanding. scott
35mmSummicron Posted April 28, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted April 28, 2007 well i think the M8 is a very capable camera for colour photography, but UV/IR detection, actually having/using the filters and different colour profiles makes for way too many variables, especially if you look long term in archiving.... i have had my M8 for a few months and now have a collection of images with fw 1.09, 1.092, 1.102, with and without filters, and a bunch of different colour profiles.....its abit of a mess. /a
