dpattinson Posted April 27, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know someone (probably several people) will be able to tell me about this rangefinder I picked up at the flea-market today. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! From what I can see on the web, its a large dial FOFER - but I haven't seen any images where the +12cm lettering is aligned the way it is on this one. It's in excellent condition, seems to be quite accurate and easy to use. I assume there is a serial number on the back - but it's currently obscured by what looks like a price sticker. It came in a fitted leather case, but with no other parts. Thanks in advance, David.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Hi dpattinson, Take a look here Which rangefinder is this?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted April 27, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2014 The construction looks nearly identical to my FOFER, but the markings are a bit different. Mine has no "+12cm" mark at all. Possibly an individual correction factor? Also, the 1meter mark on mine is "1,00"
thomas_schertel Posted April 28, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 28, 2014 It might be a "FONOR". According to Laney, Dennis, Leica Camera Zubehör, Hückelhoven 1984, p. 8: The FONOR Nr. 1 M was constructet for cameras with negative/plate formats from 6x9 t0 10x15 cm². "12 cm" means that the rangefinder is not located on the lens, but 12 cm behind the lens. Normally the manufacturers of cameras calibrated the scale for the distance from lens to object. Leitz calibrated from the film plane tot the object. yours sincerely Thomas
dpattinson Posted April 28, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted April 28, 2014 After registering on the site, I found an identical one that sold on WestLicht in 2006. They call it a FONOR, it has the same alignment of the +12cm notation on the dial.

Interesting, the same seller also had a Plaubel makina 1 (which I didn't buy) so perhaps the original owner of the Plaubel used the FONOR with that camera
