I've used mine since last June and never taken a pic outdoors without it. Is it helpful or just a pain in the lens?Cheers, Mike I am using it and I think it is helpful -- not so much in protecting the lens from sun light, but in protecting from it rain and from smearing it with your fingers (so you do not need a protective filter...). In Germany, there is a look-alike lens hood available, which costs much less. But I think that it does not make sense to order the alternative lens hood from the United States.
