X Vario Lens Hood

Hi, all - is anyone using this Leica accessory yet? Is it helpful or just a pain in the lens?

Cheers,

Mike

"Yet" ? I've used mine since last June and never taken a pic outdoors without it. The hood is not a pain and I use it in preference to using a lens protector filter.

My only gripe is that it's rather expensive.

I am using it and I think it is helpful -- not so much in protecting the lens from sun light, but in protecting from it rain and from smearing it with your fingers (so you do not need a protective filter...).

In Germany, there is a look-alike lens hood available, which costs much less. But I think that it does not make sense to order the alternative lens hood from the United States.

Some details: Leica X Vario: Options

Best regards, Gerd

It's not compulsory but IMHO there are three circumstances under which one shouldn't do without: always, always and always. Regardless of the camera.

Thanks, all - I typically use a hood another cameras, but Leica didn't have one available for my X2 due to the retracting lens design. Good to know that the hood for the X Vario is well received. Heady out to the Leica store in DC today to look at the X Vario and the T.

Cheers,

Mike

You can use a hood with the X1 and X2 if a threaded filter tube adaptor is fitted … unscrew existing lens bezel, substitute the tube http://www.amazon.de/Kiwifotos-LA-49X2B-Adapter-Tubus-Filteradapter-Leica/dp/B00DJLXSLA … and fit a hood and or filters.
