Hi,

I have been taking pictures for a few years using a Nikon DSLR and a Canon G10. I am interested in getting into a digital rangefinder to use for taking some street photographs in B/W. I love the Leica cameras but would like to try something a little more inexpensive first to see how much use it gets before i make a major investment in a Leica.

I am looking for recommendations on a decent rangefinder which has similar controls to a Leica camera. Less menus and more manual control would be great.

Something i can use for a year or so while i am learning the craft and something which will help me progress into a Leica system more easily.

Your thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you

Shawn B

Thanks for the reply James.

What about something like the Fujifilm X100?

I would love to buy a used M8 but would like to try something a little less expensive first. Plus i am hoping that perhaps the prices will decline on the M8 in the next year or so.

Welcome Shawn B

If I take your question literally, the answer is there are no digital rangefinders apart from Leica. If you mean autofocus, there is a wide choice and responses will be equally wide in spread. There are many autofocus compacts, including Leica. A used X1 is one example, which is popular with many new entrants to Leica ownership, but it is not strictly a rangefinder camera.
