Actually I never thought of that. We gotta give thanks to the beta testers!!!:)

You could be right if you think that we are now on 2.0.1.2 and it looks like the next one maybe 2.0.1.5 some work may have had to been done to get things right. Anyway time will tell and I'm sure whatever is coming will be released when it is ready be it tomorrow or in a few months time;)

You know, this sounds about right. Because, jaapv said:

"There have been plenty of early adopters using it for weeks now in the form of our betatesters. I find it pretty good."

And, "Leica Boutique Store, recently opened by Dr. Schopf...(and Ralph Gibson) It is unlikely that they would do this without consulting Leica."

And, "Fortunately I am not bound by an NDA, so I can assure you that the Betatesters were happy with the new firmware, apart from a few minor bugs (and a major one which was solved within days) and clearly told Leica "take your time to do it right".

So, it would seem that there must have been a couple of versions in beta if, as jappv stated, "a mojor one which was solved within days." That would put us on about ver. 15... just a guess. Viramati, what do you suppose was the major bug found by the beta testers and how would a bunch of forum fanboys be able to be objective and find anything wrong with anything Leica?

Still holding out for a release tomorrow,

Rick

To me the burning question is whether the update will have any effect on IQ or if it'll only be about functionality. The last update didn't fix the color-balance issues completely. Things that are just plain broken like auto ISO and the lack of lens code data in JPG files should be fixed as a matter of course and without fanfare. Only IQ improvements, new functionality, or things like compatibility with a better EVF would justify the long wait and big build-up.

Hi Rick

Any conjection as to the bug would be 'pie (or something like that, maybe lines) in the sky' so honestly I have no idea;)

Alright! The first review is in and before the FW has even been released. :D The color cast problems you mention (that are real) have to due with the thinness of the IR filter needed for Leica M-lenses and this can not be addressed in FW, I wouldn't hold my breath on this one. Search the forum for information on this... this has been covered thoroughly.

Can someone expound on IQ, meaning overall punch?

I know fw will address functionality but will it help IQ

I personally like m, and yes it's different than m9, but cleaner and better. I wonder about enhancements, went out took some snaps today before new fw,
